Job Description
Adler Universitys Couple and Family Therapy Department is excited to announce we are seeking applicants with an inclusive collaborative and dynamic leadership style to serve as the Chair of the Department of Couple and Family Therapy (CFT). We seek a department chair who is invested in the Universitys mission to prepare socially responsible practitioners engage communities and advance social justice. The department has the following programs: two COAMFTE accredited programs;MA in Couple and Family Therapy (MCFT) and a PhD in Couple and Family Therapy (CFTD) and a Certificate Sex Therapy (CST).
This is a core full-time 12-month salaried position (tenure eligible) located in downtown Chicago reporting to the Provost. The projected start date is August 2025.
COUPLE AND FAMILY THERAPY DEPARTMENT
The MA in Couple and Family Therapy (MCFT) has been accredited by COAMFTE since 2016 and the PhD in Couple and Family Therapy (CFTD) since 2018. We renewed both degrees through 2028 and Annual Reports are due each January. The Certificate in Sex Therapy (CST) launched in fall 2021 after being approved as an Organizational Provider II by AASECT (currently being renewed for 2 more years). The CFT Departments three foundational values are social justice self-of-the-therapist and experiential learning. The programs have a mission and SLOs focused on preparing ethical and socially responsible practitioners.
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS/SELECTION CRITERIA
The Department is seeking a creative collaborative and passionate leader who is invested in working closely with faculty staff and students to provide a high-quality learning environment within which students can succeed. The new chair is expected to be an innovative and collaborative leader committed to program growth.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Credentials:
- Doctorate from aCOAMFTE-accreditedprogram
- AAMFT Approved Supervisorstatus
- LMFT license eligibilityin Illinois
Experience:
- Minimum 3 yearsin higher education leadership
- Provenclinical experience
- Record ofgraduate-level teaching scholarship andclinical training
- HeldAssociate Professor (3 years)orFull Professorrank
- Familiarity withCOAMFTE accreditation
Skills and Disposition:
- Strong communication andconflict resolutionabilities
- Collaborative flexible andproblem-solving mindset
- Strength-based leadershipapproach
- Committed tosocial justice self-of-the-therapist experiential learning and work withunderserved populations
Preferred Experience
- 5 years in leadership roles such as a Program Director Clinical Training Director or Accreditation Specialist
- 5 years of experience with COAMFTE accreditation or a Site Visitor
- Familiarity with or openness to learning Adlerian theory
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Facilitate the development review and implementation of departmental strategic plans that align with the mission and strategic goals vision of the University
- Encourage and facilitate the development of new academic initiatives and support their implementation
- Facilitate departmental approval for new/revised courses program revisions and new program curriculum and review and approve Master Course Syllabi
- Lead COAMFTE maintenance and the reaffirmation processes
- Oversee the bi-annual AASECT renewal as an Organizational Provider II
- Provide leadership for the Departments institutional program review process (last completed in 2023-2024)
- Facilitate the implementation and assessment of the programs student learning outcomes
- Oversee and support the Clinical Training Director
- Evaluate and provide continuous support for full-time faculty members teaching within Department
- Schedule courses for the CFT Department including the CST; and assign full-time and adjunct faculty to course sections
- Provide channels to enhance faculty and student engagement and communication
- Teach courses at a reduced load
- Participate in Faculty Council and other shared governance activities including membership on one faculty committee
- Participate in Academic Affairs Team meetings and communicate pertinent information back to the department to ensure compliance with internal and external policies and procedures
- Provide input regarding recruitment and marketing activities with appropriate staff
- Collaborate interdepartmentally across the University and where appropriate externally; Manage departmental budget
- Develop and maintain timeline for appropriate accreditation/certification cycles
