Youth Worker - Luminos Project

About the Role

The Samaritans WA Ruah and Telethon Kids have partnered to open an early-intervention residential short-stay service for young people aged 16-24 years who are experiencing suicidal thoughts. Luminos is a place for young people to build hope and resilience under the guidance of trained staff.

This is a fixed-term part-time position due to expire on 30 June 2026 with the possibility of extension.

What were looking for

The successful applicants will be required to meet the following criteria:

  • Demonstrate previous experience in Youth Work or a similar role
  • Understanding and knowledge of WA Youth Worker Code of Ethics
  • Ability to build trust and rapport with young people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Confidence in responding to crisis situations with calm and effective interventions.
  • Ability to attentively listen to young peoples concerns and provide appropriate support.
  • Keen awareness of young people behaviour and ability to identify potential issues.
  • Willingness to work with changing situations and adapt to needs of individual residents.
  • Commitment to confidentiality.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills encompassing interpersonal verbal and written skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding working with LGBTIQ and neurodiverse people.

Please note that this is a shift worker position that involves active night shifts and weekend shifts.

What do we offer

  • A salary aligned with Level 3 of the Ruah Enterprise Agreement (and the SCHADS Award) starting at $74040 pro rata.
  • 5 weeks annual leave pro rata 17.5% annual leave loading. Shift workers also have the opportunity to accrue a 6th week of annual leave if they work over Saturdays or Sundays in a 12 month period.
  • 16 weeks paid parental leave with flexibility to take at 32 weeks half-pay (uniquely new staff can access 4 weeks paid parental leave after just 6 months service).
