Program Overview Food & Safety Services Community Care

WoodGreen Food Program provides Meals on Wheels to seniors and adults with disabilities. The Common Grounds Caf is a social enterprise that offers a unique blend of community engagement and quality service. Through serving fresh affordable food and beverages the caf fosters an inclusive and welcoming environment for all while reinvesting profits into community support initiatives. The incumbent organizes the on-site dispatch logistics for volunteer drivers and runners to pick up food with their delivery routes. The Food Handler will also support the daily operation of the Caf and work at the other dispatch sites and run the meal delivery routes as required.

What You Will Do

  • Receives Meals on Wheels food from the supplier ensuring all labels on each meal container are correct and informs vendor immediately if there are any problems detected on quantity quality and/or labeling of meals.
  • Sorts and loads all the meal items in the coolers according to the pre-designed meal delivery routes.
  • Meets with volunteer drivers and runners at the send-off location providing them with meal delivery route sheets and assisting them with safely loading their vehicles.
  • Informs the Meals on Wheels lead immediately if there are delays or absent volunteers for any pre-arranged meal delivery routes and collaborates with the lead to provide coverage.
  • Deliver meals using the agency fleet when there is a shortage of volunteers.
  • Drives and transports meals to the other volunteer dispatch site as required.
  • Cleans and sterilizes all coolers and baskets after volunteers have returned them from their routes.
  • Works closely with volunteers and treats them with dignity and respect and reports any issues to the Program Supervisor.
  • Works closely with the Food Service staff team to support them in any tasks related to food handling and program needs.
  • Supports the operation of the Caf including serving customers cooking cleaning handling monetary transactions and shopping for supplies.
  • Provides cross-coverage to the staff team at the office when staff are on vacation or sick leave etc.
  • Provides consistent high-quality customer service to clients.
  • Responds professionally to all emergency situations in accordance with unit and agency policies.
  • Liaises with appropriate organization staff and attends meetings as recommended by the Supervisor.
  • Participates in regular supervisory sessions with the Supervisor.
  • Participates in regular staff and unit meetings within the unit as required.
  • Participate in program-level and individual staff performance evaluations.
  • Represents the unit on internal staff committees as directed by the Supervisor.
  • Ensures the anti-racism objectives and community development principles of the organization are achieved within the program.
  • Upgrades training and education as directed by WoodGreen Community Services to fulfill the responsibilities of the job.
  • Perform other related duties as required from time to time.

What You Bring to the Team

  • Valid Food Handler Certificate. Valid full G drivers license and a 3-year clean Drivers Abstract are required.
  • Must be able to push trolleys with coolers weighing approximately 80 lbs daily.
  • Experience: At least 12 years work experience in food services.
  • Experience working with volunteers seniors and community programs is an asset.
