Job Summary
Responsible for providing comprehensive care at an advanced practice level to children and their families through assessment treatment clinical management ordering/or interpreting laboratory and diagnostic tests teaching and participating/conducting research. Works collaboratively with physician partners administration nursing and health care teams to develop and implement clinical program needs.
Job Specific Duties
- Acts as a resource for patients families staff or community groups providing education and emotional support.
- Develops implements evaluates monitors manages and modifies a plan of care that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes.
- Performs comprehensive and problem focused history and physician examinations.
- Considers factors related to safety effectiveness and cost in planning and delivering patient care across departments and promoting optimal patient outcomes.
- Orders and interprets appropriate laboratory tests radiological studies and consultations.
- Participates in quality improvement programs.
- Performs procedures as demonstrated through competency.
- Accountable for maintaining current expertise and skills in order to facilitate a high quality of clinical performance and to promote professional growth.
- Orders and/or prescribes medications for inpatients/outpatients.
- Participates in other necessary activities associated with patient care (writing daily progress notes coordinating clinical care discharge planning etc.).
- Writes orders monitors/alters drug therapies and performs other procedures with education and experience within established protocol in collaborative relationship with a Physician(s).
- Recognizes need for physician consultation and guidance as indicated within experience and scope of practice
- Acts as a preceptor for APP students
Minimum Job Requirements
- Masters degree in nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)
- APRN Licensure issued by the State of Florida - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
- Certification by the American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC) American Academy of Nurse Practitioner Certification Board (AANPCB) or Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB) - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
- American Heart Association BLS - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
- American Heart Association PALS required for Inpatient APPs
- Level II Background Check - if required for this position or department
- Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Certification required for PICU CICU and Neurocritical Care Units
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Certification preferred
- Able to relate cooperatively and constructively with patients families and co-workers.

- Able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Ability to problem solve to formulate a plan of care and evaluate the patients response to care.
