Job Description

Summer Learning FNMI Language Instructor


The Greater Essex County District School Board invites applications from interested all qualified staff for the position of Summer Learning FNMI Language Instructor. This position is a designated FirstNations Mtis and Inuit (FNMI) position. 1 Position - Anishinaabemowin and 1 Position -Onkwehonwe.


Job Summary:


TERM OF THE APPOINTMENT: Two-week term of employment - July 7-18 2025. The successful applicant must be available to work the entire two-week term of employment including the pre-camp workshop.

LOCATION: The successful applicant will provide in person instruction at both Camp Migizi-Ojibway and a second location TBD.

DUTIES COMMENCING: July 7 2025

HOURS: 8:00am - 11:30am

SALARY: $135/day for 10 days


Nature & Scope of Position:


  • Create develop and implement Anishinaabemowin or Haudenosaunee instruction to FNMI selfidentified students of various ages and levels;
  • Provide in person instruction to students for the duration of the camp;
  • Provide language activities for families to continue the learning daily;
  • Work collaboratively with Camp Migizi Lead for the purpose of student progress and success;
  • Attend one meeting a week throughout the three-week program (duration 1 hour maximum) to discuss progress and process to support student success;
  • Possess skills related to providing literacy instruction to FNMI self-identified elementary students;
  • Demonstrate good interpersonal skills as well as an ability to communicate across cultures and different social settings and superior conflict resolution skills;
  • Demonstrate an understanding of differentiated instructional practices; and
  • Complete all duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Indigenous Education and Equity and Inclusion through the Summer Learning Program Coordinator.


Qualifications:


  • Must hold a valid Ontario Teachers Certificate.
  • Anishinaabemowin or Onkwehonwe speaker that is able to demonstrate a high level of fluency in
  • the language and its broader cultural context.
  • Possess a deep understanding of Anishinaabemowin or Haudenosaunee culture and teachings.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to and documented success in working to create a fair inclusive antiracist environment for all stakeholders and to supporting diverse constituencies and populations;
