They perform routine dental examinations diagnose problems and create treatment plans which may include fillings extractions root canals and fitting dental prosthetics like dentures or crowns. Additionally they advise patients on maintaining good oral hygiene and diet.
Key Responsibilities:
Diagnostic and Treatment:
Examining patients teeth gums and surrounding tissues.
Diagnosing dental problems and developing individualized treatment plans.
Performing procedures like fillings extractions and root canals.
Fitting dental prosthetics such as dentures crowns and bridges.
Oral Health Education and Prevention:
Educating patients on oral hygiene techniques like brushing and flossing.
Providing advice on dietary habits that affect oral health.
Implementing preventative measures like sealants and fluoride treatments.
Other Duties:
Administering local anesthesia.
Prescribing medications as needed.
Referring patients to specialists.
Maintaining accurate patient records.
Ensuring compliance with legal and ethical standards.
Specialized Areas:
Some dentists specialize in areas like orthodontics (braces) periodontics (gum disease) or endodontics (root canals).
They may also be involved in cosmetic dentistry.
Must be a high school graduate. Further training in child care and development from some registered institution (eg. ACNS ). Proven child care experience with references. First Aid and CPR certification. Safety certification. A valid driving license and a safe driving record.
