Overview
The Float Registered Nurse (RN) plays a crucial role in delivering high-quality patient care across various departments within a healthcare facility. This position is essential for ensuring that patients receive timely and effective nursing care especially in fluctuating staffing situations. Float RNs are expected to be adaptable and quick to assess patient needs in different units which may include medical-surgical pediatrics or emergency care. Their ability to integrate seamlessly into various teams ensures continuity of care and enhances the overall patient experience. In addition to delivering direct patient care Float RNs are responsible for collaborating with other healthcare professionals to optimize treatment plans and contribute to a supportive environment for patients and their families. The Float RNs clinical expertise and versatility are invaluable as they allow healthcare facilities to maintain high standards of care under changing circumstances. This role offers a unique opportunity to enhance nursing skills across different specialties while making a positive impact on patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide patient-centered care to individuals in various departments as needed.
- Conduct thorough assessments to identify patient health issues and needs.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians.
- Monitor vital signs and report any significant changes to the healthcare team.
- Document patient assessments care plans and interventions accurately in electronic health records.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement effective care plans.
- Educate patients and their families on health conditions medications and post-discharge care.
- Assist in creating a safe and therapeutic environment for patients.
- Respond to emergency situations in a timely and effective manner.
- Support nursing staff in various departments by providing assistance where needed.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient care.
- Utilize critical thinking and problem-solving skills to address complex patient situations.
- Ensure all care provided aligns with hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to maintain nursing competencies.
- Act as a mentor for less experienced nursing staff and nursing students.
Required Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of nursing experience in an acute care setting.
- Experience in multiple nursing specialties preferred such as medical-surgical ER or ICU.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Advance Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
- Strong clinical assessment skills and knowledge of nursing best practices.
- Ability to work in fast-paced high-pressure environments.
- Effective communication skills both verbal and written.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Proficient with electronic health record systems and nursing documentation.
- Flexibility in work hours including the ability to work weekends and holidays.
- Strong ethical foundation and commitment to patient confidentiality.
- Willingness to travel within a healthcare network to various locations as needed.
- Commitment to continual professional development and education in nursing.
