Responsibilities

Performs components of occupational therapy procedures and related tasks selected by a supervising occupational
therapist; Assists occupational therapists in providing services that help improve ADLs relieve pain and prevent or limit
permanent physical disabilities of patients suffering from injuries or disease.


ESSENTIAL KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Administers active and passive manual therapeutic exercises and occupational therapy modalities according to the
occupational therapy plan of care
2. Instructs motivates and Assists patients to learn and improve functional activity strength range of motion and daily
living activities
3. Observes patients during treatments and compiles and monitors data on patients responses to treatments and
progress and reports verbally or in writing to the occupational therapist
4. Fit patients for adjust and trains patients in the use of and care of adaptive equipment
5. Performs clerical duties such as taking inventory ordering supplies answering telephones and filling out forms as
needed
6. Consistently meet patient care productivity standard as established for job classifications. Work cooperatively with
supervisors and peers to contribute to the overall productivity of the team. Utilize support personnel as appropriate and
available. Actively support and participate in patient coverage efforts across all divisions within the department as
necessary
7. Promotes and Supports positive and professional customer service while interacting with clients guests and hospital
personnel. Works collaboratively with all members of the interdisciplinary team other departments and disciplines to

assure patients and customers needs are met in a timely manner. Encourages the active participation of the patient
and/or family in goal setting and patient/family training/education
8. Provides position and constructive feedback to enhance departmental operations. Completes all necessary
documentation as outlined by departmental policy and documentation review. This includes but is not limited to
patient care charting charge entry completing peer chart and documenting on daily schedule
9. Utilizes available information management systems to support departmental and hospital goals. This includes
utilization of hospital wide e-mail information announcement policies annual computer mandatories charge entry
and accessing patient care related information. Access and use of information will meet hospital and information
management guidelines

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

Associates Degree from an approved program for COTAs

Certificate in Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA)

Current Texas State Licensure (COTA)
