Overview: Marine Mechanic I Position
Duties include the installation alignment operation and repair of heavy equipment diesel and gasoline engines and marine propulsion systems the preventive and corrective maintenance of reciprocating rotary and centrifugal oil and water transfer pumps the operation and maintenance of battery operated and corded electrical tools such as reciprocating saws grinders etc. Troubleshoots overhauls services repairs adjusts and maintains various mechanical equipment and systems as required.
Major Activities Performed:
- Shall have advanced knowledge of machine and mechanical principles and be able to locate sources of defective operation or cause of breakdown.
- Shall be able to use all hand tools and measuring instruments such as micrometers calipers gauges etc. Be exceptionally skillful in the operation and maintenance of electric and pneumatic pumps and tools necessary to perform repairs in an efficient and resourceful manner.
- Perform all duties and tasks assigned by the Mechanic Supervisor.
- Work requires working at extreme heights (infrequent) climbing vertical and inclined ladders and brief periods of strained positions such as kneeling stooping and maneuvering in close quarters. Requires carrying or lifting weights of up to 25 pounds frequently and occasionally of 40 pounds. May be exposed to sharp edges falls hazardous chemicals and conditions poor illumination and inclement weather.
- Must observe safety precautions and ensure compliance in safety.
- Possess advanced knowledge for interpreting and understanding manufacturers blueprints schematics and technical manuals.
- Shall be able to instruct Marine Mechanic Helper and Marine Mechanic II when assigned.
- Possess a thorough knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures pertaining to assigned tasks.
- Must qualify to wear a respirator.
- Must be able to work overtime if required.
- Adhere to all Corporate values policies and procedures in the execution of all responsibilities.
- Must be able to work effectively with co-workers in a professional manner at all times.
- May be required to travel.
Qualifications:
Minimum: Five (5) years of relevant ship and engine or heavy equipment maintenance mechanic experience or relevant experience in related fields.
Preferred: Seven (7) years of experience in equipment maintenance. Training or experience in gasoline or diesel engine maintenance such as a relevant military MOS technical school or ASE certification.
Security Clearance: Position requires and extensive background check.
