The High School Counseling Department Director provides leadership coordination and supervision of the school counseling program to ensure that it supports the academic career and personal/social development of all students. This position requires collaboration with counselors administrators faculty parents and community partners to deliver a comprehensive school counseling program aligned with the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) standards.
Leadership & Program Management
Develop implement and continuously improve a comprehensive school counseling
program.
Supervise evaluate and provide professional development opportunities to the
counseling department staff.
Establish goals for the counseling department in alignment with school and district
strategic plans and based on identified school needs.
Lead departmental meetings and coordinate various efforts across the school.
Keep informed on current counseling/educational innovations and practices and assist
staff in related implementation activities.
Student Support Services
Oversee the delivery of counseling services to meet the academic career college
readiness and personal/social needs of students.
Ensure equitable access to counseling services for all students.
Monitor student progress and implement intervention strategies in collaboration with
staff and families.
Support crisis intervention and conflict resolution efforts.
Stay informed and connected to the life of the school.
Collaboration & Communication
Serve as the liaison between the counseling department and school administration
teachers families other schools and community resources.
Advocate for student needs and represent the counseling department in school-wide
planning.
Work collaboratively with the school administrative team on the student scheduling
process.
Communicate regularly with parents and guardians to foster partnerships that support
student success.
Compliance & Data Management
Ensure compliance with local state and federal regulations regarding school
counseling.
Manage student records confidentiality and data reporting in accordance with FERPA
and district policies.
Analyze student data to identify trends and guide program planning and resource
allocation.
College & Career Readiness
Oversee college and career advising services including transcript reviews college
applications scholarships and financial aid guidance.
Plan and execute events such as college fairs career fairs and informational workshops.
Collaborate with post-secondary institutions and employers to enhance student
opportunities.
Perform other related duties as required/assigned.
Masters degree in School Counseling from an accredited college or university.
Valid School Counselor Certification.
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a school counselor with leadership experience preferred.
