GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under direction the Senior Signal Electrician oversees and coordinates the activities of Signal Shop employees schedules and assigns work evaluates employee performance administers discipline and handles employee grievances. The Senior Signal Electrician also assists employees with difficult tasks and instructs workers regarding the proper maintenance repair and installation techniques.
QUALIFICATIONS: An example of acceptable qualifications:
Associates Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in engineering or computer science or related field and four (4) years work experience in installing maintaining and calibrating control or measuring devices comprised of solid state electronic or computer systems used in the signal trade; or any equivalent combination of education experience and training which provides the required knowledge skills and abilities.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess a valid state of residency drivers license. Must remain insurable under the Countys vehicle insurance policy. Must possess an IMSA Work Zone Temporary Traffic Control Technician Certification. Must possess an IMSA Traffic Signal Technician Level I Certification. Must possess an IMSA Traffic Signal Field Technician Level II Certification or be able to obtain a IMSA Traffic Signal Field Technician Level II Certification prior to the expiration of probation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
  • Supervises specific department employees.
  • Plans assigns schedules and reviews employee tasks.
  • Recommends disciplinary action and commendations recommends approval of sick and vacation leave requests and receives and adjusts grievances in accordance with standard policy.
  • Assists employees with difficult tasks involving installation maintenance and repair of traffic signal control mechanisms and related components.
  • Instructs employees regarding the proper maintenance repair and installation of traffic signals and in the use of related equipment.
  • Inspects and tests signals and equipment to ensure proper operation.
  • Responds to questions and complaints from general public and law enforcement agencies.
  • Assists in preparation of specifications for traffic signal systems.
  • Reviews consultant plans and recommends revisions; prepares reports regarding future upgrading or replacement of traffic signals.
  • Prepares and maintains related records and reports (e.g. daily maintenance and repair reports inspection reports etc.).
  • Orders parts and maintains parts inventory.
  • Attends meetings and serves on committees as directed.
  • Attends training and seminars as directed.
  • Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions.
  • Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance; due to the nature of the job when scheduled for on-call assignment the Senior Signal Electrician must be available to return to work after normal work hours or on weekends and/or holidays when called to do so
