Tenure Track Assistant or Associate Professor of English (Composition/Writing Program Administration)

The English Rhetoric and Spanish division of Texas Womans University seeks a compositionist in the teacher-scholar tradition to serve as Director of First-Year Composition (FYC). A PhD in Rhetoric English Composition or closely related area is required. The new WPA has the opportunity to be part of a team exploring the development of a robust writing across the curriculum program so interest or experience in this area while not required would be a plus. While we welcome all applications priority will be given to candidates with the capacity to expand our existing course offerings and develop interdisciplinary programming across the university. Such expertise may include medical humanities disability translingualism world Englishes and Digital Humanities.

The Director of FYC leads prepares supervises and mentors instructors for the FYC program and works with stakeholders across campus to support First-Year Experience initiatives such as developmental education and learning communities. With the support of an Associate Director the FYC Director coordinates with the First-Year Experience Program to offer developmental education courses as well as partner with our Dual Credit office.

In addition to teaching First-Year Composition the successful candidate will also contribute to our BA and MA in English and PhD in Rhetoric. The successful candidate will direct theses and dissertations produce high-quality scholarship and contribute to service.

We are a lively engaged and collaborative multidisciplinary department offering a BA and MA in English and a PhD in Rhetoric; BA MA and PhD in Multicultural Womens and Gender Studies; and beginning Fall 2025 a BA in Spanish.

The position begins September 2025. Successful candidates should hold a PhD by Aug. 1 2025. The candidate should be prepared to teach engaging courses in a range of modalities: face-to-face hybrid and online.
