Robert Service School is a K-12 school with approximately 200 students. We have a highly dedicated and diverse staff led by the RSS Principal and the Trondk Hwchin Education Manager and supported by an engaged community. Situated in Dawson City Yukon on Trondk Hwchin Territory those of us who call it home live according to principles that are referred to as Trhude living or going through the world in a good way. Section 17.7 of the Trondk Hwchin Self-Government Agreement commits Trondk Hwchin and the Government of Yukon to share responsibility for lifelong learning on Trondk Hwchin Traditional Territory. The administration design and delivery of education is co-governed and emphasizes an integrated education system built on a foundation of Dnezhu and local ways of knowing being and doing. We follow the lead of our learners and respond by providing opportunities that can meet their needs and that allow them to discover their purpose.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume how you meet the following qualifications and experience:
- Demonstrated language proficiency (read write and speak) or a desire to learn the Hn language to deliver the Hn language and culture program at the K-9 level;
- Demonstrated and on-going commitment to improve language proficiency;
- Considerable knowledge and awareness of Yukon First Nations/ Trondk Hwchin culture traditional practices values and beliefs as well as a good understanding of the past and current issues in education heritage and languages with a view to past the present and the future.
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:
Candidates should have and may be assessed on their:
- Strong interest and ability to teach the Hn language and culture as a second language;
- Strong classroom management skills;
- Ability to adapt and modify curriculum to address students needs and gifts to ensure that all students experience success in this program;
- Ability to work as a team member and a willingness and enthusiasm to participate in all staff meetings school wide functions and initiatives as well as Yukon First Nations Language Teacher professional development;
- Abiliy to connect and collaborate with school based staff parents and/or caregiver;
- Willingness to actively promote Hn language and culture within school programming and environment
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Criminal Record/RCMP Check with Vulnerable Sector; to be provided before the first day of employment dated no more than 3 months prior to your start date
