  1. Investigating the mechanisms of action underlying side effects related to cancer treatment such as radiation fibrosis and lymphedema
  2. Evaluation of biomarkers of radiation fibrosis and lymphedema
  3. Development of novel drug therapies for radiation fibrosis and lymphedema

Labs:

Research in the Kwan Lab is focused on the development of novel circulating biomarkers to facilitate early detection and prognostication for breast cancer-related lymphedema. Using molecular biology techniques they also aim to understand the underlying metabolic and inflammatory mechanisms of action in lymphedema to identify novel therapeutic targets.

The Liu Lab is a leader in research on head and neck cancers and radiation fibrosis. They focus on several aspects of translational molecular oncology including the development of biomarkers for head and neck cancers high-throughput screens to identify novel anti-cancer therapeutics and new drug therapies for radiation fibrosis.
