The Department of Economic Security Division of Employment and Rehabilitation Services (DERS) strengthens Arizona communities by bridging and minimizing gaps to employment and independence.
DES is seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our team as an IT Deputy Administrator with Information Technology (IT). This position is responsible for providing leadership and managing the IT staff that design develop implement and maintain the information technology that supports the Workforce and Rehabilitation Services programs. This position will report to the DERS IT Administrator and will have direct responsibilities for two IT sections and sub-units supporting these programs.

This position may be available for remote work within Arizona (up to two days per week in the office/hoteling).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Provide leadership direction management and oversight of two primary sections under the DERS IT Administration: Workforce and Rehabilitation Services Sections.
Utilize a variety of project management methodologies and processes (waterfall and agile) oversee prioritize and monitor work items and projects within these sections throughout the project/product lifecycle.
Engage with the business programs internal technical partners and DERS executive team.
Mange and approve sensitive and complex personnel activities related to hiring corrective actions critical justifications position descriptions time sheet approval and leave management
Identify program system functional and network requirements to address business problems and needs
Investigate assess and evaluate new technologies and business solutions; procure technology and business solutions and resources through acquisition processes
Other duties as assigned
Knowledge Skills Abilities (KSAs):
Knowledge of Workforce and Rehabilitation Services programs.
Knowledge of acquisition and procurement processes
Knowledge of project management life cycle related to information technology project management principles and practices.
Knowledge of waterfall and agile software methodologies and associated PM tools.
Knowledge of mainframe distributed and cloud technologies.
Strong Leadership and customer service skills.
Strong verbal and written communication.
Ability to manage multiple projects and teams.
Ability to meet deadlines and monitor projects with minimal oversight.
The ideal candidate for this position will have:
8 or more years of related experience as IT manager/supervisor.
Broad and deep knowledge of the Workforce and Rehabilitation Services programs.
2 years of Project Management experience.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
Bachelors degree plus 8 or more years of related experience plus 3 or more years of management experience (or equivalent experience).
Candidate shall have or meet the requirements to obtain prior to their first day of employment a valid Level One Arizona fingerprint clearance card that meets DES requirements for a Level One card pursuant to Arizona Revised Statute 41-1969.
Successfully pass background and reference checks; employment is contingent upon completion of the above-mentioned process and the agencys ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions.
All newly hired State employees are subject to and must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).
Travel will be required for State business. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current valid class-appropriate drivers license complete all required training and successfully pass all necessary drivers license record checks. The license must be current unexpired and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on State business are subject to drivers license record checks must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on State business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code A.A.C. R.11).
An information technology background check clearance card investigation will be performed. This position directly maintains or has responsibilities to alter system functions and/or modify functions of computers and will be subject to a background check that meets DES requirements.
