Job Title

Pharmacy Assistant

  • Department: Health Services
  • Reports To: Pharmacist / Site Supervisor / Health Director
  • Location: Various FNHA Operational Sites and BC Health Authorities (Across BC)
  • Employment Type: Full-time / Part-time / Casual (Temporary Staffing)

Job Purpose

The Pharmacy Assistant assists licensed pharmacists with medication preparation and distribution performing clinical and administrative tasks. This role is crucial for ensuring accurate inventory management and delivering exceptional customer service in diverse healthcare settings including First Nations communities.

Key Responsibilities

Direct Patient Support:

  • Assist pharmacists in dispensing prescription and non-prescription medications
  • Provide courteous accurate customer service to patients and healthcare providers
  • Package and label medications according to regulatory and organizational standards
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and follow established policies and procedures

Inventory & Medication Management:

  • Receive organize and manage medication inventory
  • Check for expired medications and restock supplies
  • Maintain a clean and organized pharmacy work area
  • Support administrative tasks such as data entry and record keeping

Work Settings:

  • FNHA-operated facilities including nursing stations health centres community clinics and satellite locations
  • Pharmacy roles within BC Health Authorities: Interior Health Fraser Health Vancouver Coastal Health Vancouver Island Health Northern Health and PHSA

Geographic Coverage:

Assignments available across FNHA operational sites and BC Health Authorities in urban and rural locations.

Qualifications

Education & Certification:

  • Completion of a recognized Pharmacy Assistant training program

Compliance Requirements:

  • Clear Criminal Record Check & Vulnerable Sector Screening
  • Two professional references
  • Up-to-date immunization records

Core Competencies:

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to follow instructions and pharmacy protocols
  • Cultural sensitivity and respect for diverse populations

Working Conditions:

  • May involve travel to rural and remote First Nations communities
  • Flexible scheduling including weekends and holidays
  • May require prolonged standing and light lifting
