Job Description

At Catapult we are supporting our member NC Child in their search for a Special Events Manager. This is a full time hybrid role in Raleigh NC.


About NC Child

NC Child builds a strong North Carolina by advocating for policies that improve the lives of all North Carolina children. NC Child is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Raleigh NC.


Position Overview:

NC Child is seeking an experienced and highly organized Special Events Manager to lead the planning and execution of events related to both the organization and its new initiative Excel NC a business-led coalition advocating for investment in early childhood education. This role will coordinate regional gatherings annual convenings and stakeholder meetings for Excel NC while also managing NC Childs major organizational events such as the State of the Child Summit and Family Field Day. Additionally this position will play a key role in supporting development efforts by cultivating corporate sponsorships and maintaining relationships with event-level business partners.


This role offers the opportunity to elevate high-impact advocacy through thoughtful mission-driven event experiences that connect business leaders policymakers and community champions around early childhood policy.


Responsibilities:

Event Planning & Management (Approx. 60%)

- Lead logistical planning and on-the-ground coordination for all Excel NC coalition events including:

  • Coalition building roundtables
  • Regional convening (statewide)
  • Annual coalition gathering
  • Child care economic summits

- Manage NC Child signature events including:

  • State of the Child Summit (project management venue vendors program flow)
  • Family Field Day (logistics vendor coordination event flow)
  • Parent Advisory Council Retreat (logistics)
  • EarlyWell Annual Convening (logistics)

- Develop and maintain event production timelines budgets and staffing needs.

- Collaborate closely with communications staff to develop invitations programs signage and digital promotion.

- Work cross-functionally with internal teams and external vendors to ensure smooth execution of events.


Corporate Sponsorship Support (Approx. 30%)

  • Serve as a key development team member in stewarding relationships with corporate partners at the entry and mid-tier sponsorship levels.
  • Collaborate with senior development staff to execute sponsor benefit fulfillment and ensure quality partner experience at events.
  • Support sponsor cultivation through tailored outreach materials and follow-up for regional and coalition events.
  • Maintain accurate tracking of sponsorship outreach and commitments in the donor CRM system.

Administrative & Strategic Support (Approx. 10%)

  • Prepare briefing materials for event speakers coalition leaders and executive staff.
  • Coordinate post-event evaluations and reports to inform strategic improvements.
  • Support logistics for internal coalition planning meetings and leadership calls.
  • Maintain detailed records and documentation of event-related activities.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in event planning or external affairs preferably in nonprofit public affairs or corporate settings.
  • Proven ability to manage complex events from concept to completion.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong relationship-building skills particularly with corporate or business audiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight timelines. Comfort engaging with C-suite or senior-level partners with professionalism and confidence.
  • Familiarity with North Carolinas business nonprofit or political landscape is a plus.
  • Commitment to NC Childs mission of improving child well-being through public policy.

Position Requirements:

  • NC Child uses a hybrid work model. This person will be required to work in person at the NC Child office in Raleigh 2 days each week.
  • This person will occasionally need to travel around and outside of the state. They will be reimbursed for all mileage traveled to project sites at the standard IRS rate for business purposes.
  • NC Child requires staff to be vaccinated against COVID-19.

Compensation & Benefits:
