Position: Intermediate Academic Specialist Math
Location: Central Office and Assigned Elementary Schools
Reports to:Executive Director of Elementary Leadership
Length of Employment: 210 Days
Salary: As per Berkeley County pay schedule based on degree level and years of experiencewith coordinator index.
Qualifications:
- Masters Degree in Education Mathematics Science Curriculum & Instruction or a related field from an accredited institution
- Valid West Virginia Teaching Certification for Elementary Education (Grades K6 or K8) with math and/or science experience preferred
- Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience at the intermediate level (Grades 35)
- Demonstrated success in increasing student achievement in mathematics and science
- In-depth knowledge of the West Virginia College- and Career-Readiness Standards in math and science
- Experience with iReady Classroom Mathematics the Thinking Classroom model and diagnostic tools
- Understanding and application of WVGSA Cambium data and other relevant assessments to guide instruction
- Experience with facilitating and participating in high-functioning PLCs
- Strong skills in coaching communication collaboration and the integration of instructional technology
- Experience planning and leading professional development and modeling instruction in live classroom settings
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instructional coaching and support to Grades 35 teachers in mathematics and science
- Model effective mathematics and science instruction including inquiry-based learning and hands-on strategies in classroom settings
- Facilitate the implementation of the Thinking Classroom model to increase engagement and deep mathematical thinking
- Support the use of iReady diagnostic data WVGSA results and Cambium reports to identify instructional needs and target interventions
- Work collaboratively with school administrators to improve student achievement and meet School Strategic Plan goals
- Assist in planning organizing and facilitating effective PLC meetings focused on data analysis instructional planning and student outcomes
- Provide ongoing professional development for staff in instructional practices curriculum implementation and data-driven instruction in math and science
- Support teachers in differentiating instruction through multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) and evidence-based strategies
- Assist schools with preparation and coordination of Science Fairs at the school and county level
- Support implementation of the adopted math and science curricula including textbook and resource training
- Collaborate with the curriculum and assessment teams to ensure alignment of materials with county and state standards
- Provide coaching and feedback to educators on classroom practices student engagement and the integration of technology
- Travel regularly to intermediate schools to offer on-site instructional support and monitor implementation fidelity
- Keep current with best practices instructional innovations and relevant research in both math and science education
- Participate in and support district-level initiatives textbook adoptions and assessment processes
- Assist with the creation and monitoring of pacing guides assessment calendars and instructional materials
- Support and help organize Steps to Success Summer Learning and Enrichment Camps
- Help and support Math Field Day
- Prepare and maintain documentation reports and schedules as required
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Elementary Leadership
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand walk sit talk and hear. May occasionally lift up to 50 pounds (e.g. books equipment or device carts). Vision abilities required include close vision distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
The work is performed primarily indoors in school and office settings. Noise levels may vary from moderate to loud. Travel between multiple school locations is required.
