Other Conditions:Contingent on course offerings and student demand to begin approximately Fall 2025 availability of funds and actual staffing requirements. The position may be converted from 11 to 9 months or 9 to 11 months based on operational needs.Introduction:
This position is part of the Health Sciences Department and provides counseling and other student personnel services for students in Health Sciences and Emergency Medical Services programs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
To provide a full range of counseling and other student personnel services for students in Health Sciences and Emergency Medical Services programs including:
Financial aid advising admissions counseling academic advisement career and personal counseling;
Participate in recruitment activities statewide assist in program orientation and registration activities assist in transcript review for graduation qualification assist in resolving registration problems;
Plan design implement and evaluate such student support services to health sciences programs as program orientation course advising and registration transfer advising and career services that transition students to the workplace;
Identify needs of health sciences majors and pre-majors and collaborate with faculty and staff from other units to create partnerships for seamless delivery of specialized counseling activities;
Coordinate needs assessment and retention studies for continuous improvement of student learning outcomes
Use internet-based and other distributive learning (DE) techniques and strategies to plan and deliver Health Sciences student services
Ability to travel independently in a timely manner to various locations including the neighbor islands.
Non-counseling duties include:
working collegially to provide service to the department and college
engaging in professional development and professional or scholarly activities related to counseling and
engaging in public service related to ones professional status and/or expertise.
Other duties as assigned (Note: evening weekend and offcampus duties may be assigned as part of the workload.)
Minimum Qualifications
Masters degree in Counseling and Guidance Counseling Psychology College Student Personnel Services Human Resources (to include both CTAHR and Personnel) Communications or related field*;
OR
Bachelors degree in Counseling and Guidance Counseling Psychology College Student Personnel Services; Human Resources (to include both CTAHR and Personnel) Communications or related field*;AND3 years related work experience.
Note:
*Related fields include: Education (to include all degrees in this field) Family Resources Human Development Psychology (to include all degree in this field) Public Health Rehabilitation Counseling Social Work Sociology and Student Services Personnel
Desirable Qualifications
Functional knowledge of college student services (academic career admissions orientation) programs
Demonstrated ability to handle wide range of counseling functions independently and as part of a team;
Demonstrated ability to be sensitive to needs of diverse student population including immigrant disadvantaged adult disabled and multicultural populations and influences that impact their access to and success in higher education
Functional knowledge of career development programs
Functional knowledge of academic advising programs including internet advising and distance education advising.
Functional knowledge of recruitment programs.
Demonstrated ability to assess students educational needs.
Functional knowledge of retention strategies (e.g. learning communities First Year Experience)
Demonstrated skill in communicating effectively with students faculty and staff and ability to maintain effective working relationships.
Functional knowledge of and familiarity with selective admissions programs especially in health sciences or other career and technical education programs.
