Job Description

Job Description
The Aquatics unit is an integral part of Fitness & Recreation and provides customer service while ensuring participants learn to swim in a safe environment. The Swimming Instructor works under direct supervision of the Aquatics Management team and is responsible for carrying out the day-to-day operations of the Aquatics unit which includes customer service creating and following lesson plans and providing quality instruction to all program participants.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

  • Nationally Recognized CPR /AED- American Red Cross First Aid and CPR/AED for Infants Youth and Adults certification
  • Working knowledge of program activity practices and procedures.
  • Verbal and written communication skills in the English language active listening dynamic flexibility critical thinking multi-task and time management skills.
  • Ability to exercise independent sound judgment and employ reasoning skills.
  • Client service minded entrepreneurial spirit and creative thinking skills.
  • Basic skills in computer programs relevant to job duties.


    • American Red Cross Lifeguard Training/First Aid
    • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor
    • Two years of more of experience as instructor
    • Certification to instruct in the applicable fitness & recreation program or equivalent experience
