LAWRENCE PUBLIC SCHOOLS 237 Essex Street Lawrence MA 01840 JOB DESCRIPTION Assistant Director of Health Services REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent Office of Student Support Services and the Director of Health ServicesSUMMARY: The role of the Assistant Director of Health Services is critical for supervision of the Districts school nurse program and to manage the partnership of the education system and the healthcare system. The Assistant Director will support the director and school nurses who provide screenings and referrals administer medications and treatments provide first aid provide health counseling and education and support students to acquire self-management skills. This critical position of Assistant Director of Health Services will ensure that all students are healthy and ready to learn. The school health team consists of the Director of Health Services Assistant Director of Health Services school-based Registered Nurse(s) school-based Licensed Practical Nurses and several Certified Nursing Assistants working in partnership with the student his/her parents and the students primary healthcare provider(s). DUTIES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS POSITION INCLUDE: 1. Assists in the Management of the school health program.2. Provides nursing leadership within the school system. 3. Implements programs and provides continuous quality assurance and evaluation. 4. Assists in the coordination of the clinical aspects of the comprehensive school health program 5. Collaborates with other members of the health services and health education team. 6. Collaborates with the Director of Health Services Superintendent and his/her designee Director of the Board of Health for the City of Lawrence community providers other community organizations and coalitions addressing health issues of children and adolescents. 7. Adheres to the Nurse Practice Act pertinent to regulations governing nursing practice and standards of care established by professional organizations which include the Department of Public Heath the Center for Disease Control and the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. 8. Assists with the coordination of the Medication Delegation/Epipen training. 9. Reviews district policies and procedures that apply to the School Health Program and advises on the appropriate modifications and revisions. 10. Collaborates with Director of Health Services concerning health related issues. 11. Monitors and evaluates each individual school health program for compliance with District and State policies and regulations. 12. Develops with the assistance of nursing/administrative personnel appropriate and standardized school health reporting and record keeping practices and procedures. 13. Assists with the coordinating professional development programming for school health personnel with the arranging of substitute nursing coverage for nurse absences and field trips and substitute in schools as staffing requires.15. Participates in orientation of nursing personnel 16. Provides supervision and evaluation of nursing personnel as assigned. 17. Assists with supply ordering and distribution along with financial record keeping and annual budget preparation. 18 . Additional duties and responsibilities as appropriate. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors Degree in Nursing Masters Degree preferred Certificates & Licenses: MA License as School Nurse 3 years experience preferred WORK YEAR: Full-time Exempt Position 230 Days/Annually Salary Commensurate with Experience
