Job Description



Since 1948 Boys & Girls Haven has been dedicated to transforming the lives hearts and minds of Kentuckys most vulnerable youth and their families. Through a comprehensive continuum of care that includes residential and in-home foster care independent living programs career and life skills training and preventative community-based services Boys & Girls Haven aims to reduce disruptions in childrens lives heal the effects of abuse and neglect and promote well-being among families.

Core Schedule:Monday Friday 8am 4:30pm; may include evenings weekend and on-call hours as necessary.
Role Summary:
The Senior Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing a wide range of skilled maintenance and repair tasks to ensure the safety functionality and appearance of Boys & Girls Haven facilities equipment and grounds. This position plays a critical role in maintaining a safe welcoming and operational environment across the main campus and satellite locations.


Essential Functions:

Maintenance & Repairs
  • Perform general maintenance duties and repairs including carpentry drywall repair plumbing basic electrical painting landscaping & mechanical work.
  • Ensure that maintenance schedules are followed and execute daily maintenance work orders
  • Conduct routine preventive maintenance on facilities vehicles & equipment.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests & emergencies.
  • Maintain walkways entrances & parking areas for all campuses during inclement weather.
Administrative Responsibilities
  • Respond to emails and internal communication in a timely and professional manner
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with agency staff leadership clients and volunteers
  • Maintain accurate records of completed work inspections supply inventory and preventative maintenance tasks
  • Complete required documentation logs and reports per agency requirements
Project Assistance
  • Assist with larger repairs and renovation projects as directed.
  • Coordinate and execute assigned tasks efficiently and safely.
  • Collaborate with teammates and departments to ensure timely project completion.
Facility & Equipment Inspections
  • Conduct routine inspections of buildings vehicles and equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with state and local building and fire code requirement during inspections.
  • Report any damage deficiencies or required repairs to the Facilities Manager.
Safety & Compliance
  • Follow all safety protocols and wear appropriate PPE
  • Ensure work meets applicable codes and standards
  • Operate agency vehicles and equipment safely including the use of seatbelts and adhering to posted speed limits.
  • Use caution and drive slowly on campus particularly in areas where clients or staff may be present.
Tools Materials & Workspace Management
  • Maintain clean safe and organized workspaces and vehicles
  • Properly use and care for agency tools and equipment
  • Monitor inventory levels and communicate supply needs.
General support
  • Be available for on-call assignments or emergency response
  • Provide support for agency events and campus-wide projects as needed
  • Assist with volunteer projects when directed by supervisor
  • Attend department meetings and meet all training requirements
  • Must function independently and within a team
  • Employee may be required at times to perform duties that include exposure to extreme temperatures.
  • Respond to and coordinate furniture/donation pick-up and delivery
  • Employee may be routinely asked to push pull move and/or lift a minimum of 80 pounds to a minimum height of three feet and be able to push pull move and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of six feet.

Unplanned Activities: At BGH we value teamwork. To meet departmental and organizational goals the employee is expected to assist with activities that are not formal parts of the roles essential functions.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent. Trade and vocational school preferred.
  • 10 years of applicable skilled trade or maintenance experience required.
  • Valid drivers license and insurability by BGH insurance carrier required.


Other Must be at least 21 years of age. Legally able to work in the United States. Demonstrated patience tact cheerful disposition and enthusiasm as well as be willing to handle residents based on whatever maturity level they are currently functioning. Ability to maintain appropriate boundaries with staff and residents. Excellent organization communication and time-management skills needed. Detail-oriented and able to effectively prioritize and coordinate multiple tasks for maximum productivity. Must have the ability to meet multiple deadlines. Able to use Microsoft Office Suite and other BGH database(s) calculators and other office equipment. Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace. Ability to remain calm and composed during stressful situations. Ability to help solve practical problems. Must be able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Physical Demands - While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to frequently: sit stand walk; climb (ladder step stool stairs); balance; kneel crouch or squat; bend/stoop; pivot/ twist; touch/grasp with hands handle or feel objects tools or controls; reach with hands and arms above below or to the side of shoulders / body; taste and smell. The employee must occasionally lift carry and/or move up to 80 pounds. Hear and communicate with others in face-to-face speech on the telephone and /or intercom. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision distance vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to read write type/computer entry and converse/communicate (including written communications) in English.

Must be able to relate to and work with ill disabled emotionally upset and at times hostile people within the facility.
Works in all areas of the facility.
Moves intermittently during working hours.
Is subject to frequent interruptions and may need to reschedule cleaning activities.
Is involved with residents personnel visitors government agencies/personnel etc. under all conditions and circumstances.
Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents family members personnel and visitors.
Communicates with environmental services personnel and other department personnel.
Works beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary as well as in other positions as needed.
May be required to work on shifts other than the one for which hired.
Attends and participates in continuing educational programs.
Is subject to injury from falls burns from equipment odors etc. throughout the work day as well as reactions from dust disinfectants and other air contaminants.
Is subject to exposure to infectious waste diseases conditions etc. including TB and the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.
May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals.
