This position supports the daily operation of the Peabody Sleep Lab which include Home Sleep Testing MSLTs and sleep scoring of both HST and Facility studies.Job Description:
Position Summary:
Under general supervision of the sleep center medical director (MD) and chief technologist. Perform Home Sleep Testing (HST) downloading and cleaning of equipment. Scoring both HSTs and facility-based sleep studies guide lines for minimal technical standards have been outlined by the American Association of Sleep Medicine. The senior sleep technician acts as lead technologist when designated by the chief technologist and on shifts and on sites where the chief technologist is not present. The senior technician scores studies and generates reports following department standards.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:
Satisfies department requirements for registration as a Polysomnographic Tech through the BRPT within defined time frame. Scores PSG MSLT MWT and HST studies following all the criteria of our Sleep Disorders Center and the guidelines established in the AASM Manual for Staging and Scoring of Sleep and Associated Events. Generates a comprehensive preliminary report following the department standards. When designated can act as team leader on their shift acting as a lead technologist with the ability to make decisions in the absence of the chief technologist assuring the efficiency of workflow and patient safety. Demonstrates an appreciable knowledge of all Sleep procedures performed in the department. Troubleshoots faulty equipment and makes necessary alterations in order to continue with the study in progress. Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients medical problems and physiological events especially cardiac dysrhythmias respiratory events and seizures. Collects patient information by reviewing existing information in the patients medical record or from referring physicians office notes. Completes the patient questionnaire and is able to recognize/identify the patients sleep/wake complaint. Complies with department expectations pertaining to registration with the BRPT. Continuing education - Attends sleep meetings keeps informed on current and new technological advancements in the study of sleep medicine. Shows initiative in learning new procedures occurring in the lab. Incorporates Lahey Clinic Guiding Principles Mission Statement and Goals into daily activities. Complies with all Lahey Clinic Policies.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High School
Licensure Certification Registration: Registration or registry eligible is preferred. BLS Required
Skills Knowledge & Abilities: Understands and utilizes the basic principles of polysomnographic instrumentation including analog and/or digital recording ancillary DC devices and positive airway pressure such that a study can be performed and presented for interpretation.
Experience: A minimum of one years experience in a sleep lab.
