Job Description:

Reporting into the Underwriting and Claims Controls Admin Team the incumbent will be responsible for managing the underwriting peer review and audit program to maintain the companys risk discipline and adherence to the documentation standards set by the Corporate Risk Office. Additionally the successful candidate will assist with international life claims decisions tracking and reporting as well as writing updating and maintenance of all underwriting and claims practices and procedures and liaising with the corporate team as required.

What will you do

  • Assisting with the underwriting peer review program; conducting semi-annual underwriting peer reviews/audits and providing feedback and direction to enable delivery of consistent excellent underwriting decisions.
  • Review and assist with high net worth international death claims providing guidance from an underwriting perspective on hypothetical claim questions contestable claim queries and documentation of claim decisions for Sun Life International (Bermuda) including reporting of data to other teams on claims results.
  • Maintaining and updating the underwriting Knowledge Base on all changes to practices processes and procedures related to underwriting and claims.
  • Maintaining and updating all underwriting and claims-related forms and guides.
  • Maintenance of the Standard Operating Practices for Bermuda Life business as well as claims practices and ensuring they are in-line with the Enterprise Operating Guidelines.
  • Review and approval of all new medical facilities worldwide to ensure suitability to complete medical exams and adherence to examination and lab testing requirements.
  • Review and approval of all new third-party financial verifiers worldwide.
  • Special projects as required.

What do you need to succeed

  • 8 years of life insurance underwriting experience with International experience preferred
  • Strong organization skills and ability to continually prioritize work with ongoing changing priorities
  • Strong interpersonal skills as the role requires engagement of various functions outside of underwriting and claims.
  • Ability to flourish and adapt in an agile work environment
  • Responsive to Client demands while demonstrating sound business judgement
  • Ability to work independently while being a strong team player
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Participation in the Underwriting and Claims Forum. These quarterly meetings may require teleconference meetings outside of regular work hours to accommodate time zones in Asia
  • Independent thinker with strong decision-making skills
  • Proficient in the use and management of Excel Word and SharePoint.
  • Completion of or working towards Fellow Life Management Institute FLMI designation and or completion of or working towards International Claims Association ICA designation and/or Fellow Academy Life Underwriting FALU or willingness to do so over the next 5 years.
  • Life claims experience is an asset
  • Experience with complex policy ownership is an asset

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
