The Market Interventions Payments Department is responsible for supervisingover 1250 non-bank payment service providers and for providing specialist payments support and insight across the FCA.
You will be involved in a diverse range of issues including consumer harm prudential weakness and financial crime. We alsowork closely with external stakeholders such as TheBank of England and the National Crime Agency.
The Payments Market Interventions Department at the FCA champions the safe and effective supervision of payments and electronic money firms shaping a trusted payments landscape that supports people and businesses across the UK. The teams work enhances everyday life ensuring payments are fast dependable inclusive and secure.
What will you be doing
Getting to understand how regulated firms make their money assessing the risks this presents to their customers and the markets in which they operate and determining how the firms manage these risks to stop customers being harmed for example through the loss of their money
Assessing regulated firms compliance against the relevant rules and requirements
Influencing senior industry figures to change how they operate if they are not meeting the rules and requirements and in the most severe cases taking regulatory action to stop firms operating their businesses
Engaging effectively and proactively with colleagues across the FCA other regulators and law enforcement agencies both in the UK and internationally

Develop skills and capabilities within a regulated environment able to assess and quantify risk and develop appropriate strategies to stop the risk happening
Learn and develop a deep understanding of relevant legislation and how it applies to regulated firms
Play a key role in shaping and influencing strategy and policymaking in this sector as the role of Payments and E-money firms becomes increasingly significant to the financial system

Minimum
Prior experience in a legal compliance regulatory or enforcement function at a regulated financial service provider regulatory consultancy government agency enforcement agency or a regulator
Prior experience of assessing information and presenting key issues and recommendations
Essential
Confident and adept in developing and nurturing relationships with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
Curiosity and motivation to continually learn about and investigate issues within the firms and industry we supervise
Good interpersonal and communication skills
Willingness to learn and develop yourself and others taking on new responsibilities and adopting a flexible and pragmatic approach to your work
Experience of successful teamwork. You will work with others to deliver outcomes and achieve tasks and you will proactively offer your support to colleagues
Confident in identifying and escalating issues to the appropriate level without delay
Capable of representing yourself and the FCA in a professional credible manner supported by excellent oral and presentation skills
