The Department of Housing Services is currently searching for a Controller whose financial expertise will help us carry out our mission ofcreating pathways out of homelessness promoting housing stability and investing in affordable communities for Washington County and our residents.
The Housing Services Controller provides leadership and oversight for the Housing Department and Housing Authoritys accounting operations ensuring compliance with accounting standards regulations and internal policies. This position is responsible for managing the preparation of financial statements regulatory reports and audits including the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (ACFR) and Single Audit. The Controller leads the review and implementation of accounting policies and internal controls to ensure accurate financial reporting and operational integrity. This role works closely with leadership staff and external partners to support informed decision-making and advance the Countys housing and homelessness services.
The ideal candidate for the Controller role will bring strong public sector accounting experience preferably in a complex multi-funded environment. They will be skilled in governmental and fund accounting with a solid understanding of GASB standards HUD compliance and affordable housing finance. The successful candidate will have a track record of working with a variety of auditors reviewing and updating accounting policies internal controls and procedures to improve accuracy consistency and transparency. They will be a collaborative leader who can support staff development work across teams and clearly communicate financial information to diverse audiences. This role requires someone who can balance technical expertise with operational problem-solving to strengthen financial stewardship and support the Countys affordable housing mission.

Selection Process:

3. Subject Matter Expert (SME) Review:Your responses may be evaluated and scored by a panel of subject matter experts. This process will begin the week ofJune 15 2025and may take up to 2 weeks.
4. Panel Interviews:Generally the top 6 8 candidates will be invited to participate in a panel interview.
5.Conditional Offer:The topcandidate will be required to successfully clear a third-party background check and driving check as pre-employment conditions.
