The purpose of this position is to collaborate with faculty staff and patients to improve the health of a diverse population of patients at the OHSU East Portland Pharmacy. This position will provide the services of a licensed pharmacist which includes the responsibility for the safe and proper distribution and use of drugs as well as other services. The pharmacist will help provide direction to pharmacy interns and technicians.
Interprets and evaluates providers orders and prescriptions for accuracycompleteness and appropriateness. Recognizes therapeutic problems including drug interactions contraindications improper dosing andprecautions of therapy and toxicities. Consults with practitioner whenproblems or adverse effects are identified.
Counsels and trains patients regarding appropriate use of their medications (i.e. purpose actions dosage side effects storage precautions etc). Monitors therapeutic response and adverse effects of drug therapy. Consultswith practitioner when questions or problems are identified. Appropriately reports all adverse drug reactions drug defects and medication errors.
Prepares labels and controls all medications for patient use. This includesassuring proper drug storage in all areas where medications are dispensed orstored. Maintains appropriate records as required by law and hospital policy.
Participates in drug product selection counsels prescribers on the selectionof appropriate and cost effective alternatives.
Assists with devising developing and operationalizing programs to ensurethe proper use of medications and continuous quality improvement.

The pharmacist will experience competing demands on their time from clinic staff and/or patients and willneed to effectively multi-task and prioritize demands. The pharmacist must deal with intense situations on aregular basis. The expectation is to provide patients with exceptional customer service at all times.Additionally within the healthcare setting there can be a significant lack of control over the workplace withfrequent interruptions (work is often dictated by external factors) that may lead to mental fatigue or stress.Hours: variable Monday through Friday 8:00 AM 8PM and Saturday 8:30 AM - 1:30 PM.
Full-Time
