Job Description
High School Religion Teacher (Distance Learning)
ASCEND Online is a distance learning school operated by the Catholic Independent Schools of the Kamloops Diocese. The school enrolls approximately 700 students from Kindergarten to Grade Twelve. ASCEND Online is seeking a BC certified teacher as a part-time Religion Teacher effective September 1 2025. The position includes: weekly Zoom classes for each of the grades 10 11 and 12 weekly co-planning and roll out of the High School Prayer group (Grades 8-12 also on Zoom) organization of an annual retreat for students co-organization and attendance at an annual in person meet up for students of the High School Prayer group. Other teaching duties may be assigned based on mutual agreement between the candidate and ASCEND Online administration.
This position is currently an independent contractor position. Among other obligations the independent contractor must review and adapt course content based on students learning needs assess students learning facilitate course delivery using a variety of methods (online Zoom videos D2L etc.) meet regularly with school-based teams via Zoom and provide their own technology equipment.
Preference will be given to candidates who possess:
- Active membership in a Catholic parish
- Commitment to excellence in Catholic education
- A deep knowledge of the teachings of the Catholic Church
- Knowledge of the teachings of the program Theology of the Body
- The ability to be flexible when faced with the ever-shifting needs of todays education system
- A genuine sense of joy in regard to teaching and learning
- A commitment to relationship-based learning
- Experience planning and implementing educational programs for students in an online format
- Experience planning and implementing Catholic Youth programs and retreats
- Familiarity with BC Curriculum
- The ability to adapt learning opportunities to meet the needs of students
