JOB GOAL
To create a flexible program and a classroom environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with students; to motivate students to develop skills attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for academic success in accordance with each students ability; to establish good relationships with parents and with other staff members.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Works directly with English Language Learners (ELL)/English as a Second Language (ESL) students.
- Provides primary and/or supplementary individualized instruction.
- Offers academics on a level commensurate with the ability of each student as prescribed by the multidisciplinary team of each student in his/her individualized educational program.
- Provides remediation of as well as compensation for individual deficiencies as determined through individual evaluation.
- Promotes the development of positive self-concept self-discipline and self-motivation.
- Serves as a consultant to the classroom teacher in meeting the needs of ELL/ESL students.
- Makes home visits when the need arises as determined by the student services supervisor and school principal.
- Develops and evaluates lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
- Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
- Evaluates students academic and social growth keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports.
- Communicates with parents counselors and students through conferences and other means to discuss students progress and interpret the school program.
- Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health attitude and learning problems.
- Maintains professional competence through inservice education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.
- Administers group standardized tests in accordance with district testing program and interprets individual standardized test scores to students and parents.
- Participates in curriculum development programs as required.
- Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
- Performs other such duties as may reasonably be prescribed by the principal.
