Description

The Special Education Individual Aide assists teachers in the delivery of educational and behavioral interventions of a three-year-old male with autism spectrum disorder and hearing loss within a preschool setting. The purpose of this position is to help the child reach educational communication and social-emotional goals. The Special Education Individual Aide may provide a variety of support and assistance and should be flexible adjusting to the childs needs.


Hours: Monday through Friday 8:30 am. 1:00 pm (22.5 hours per week).


Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Assist the classroom teacher in providing educational emotional behavioral and communicative support for a child with hearing loss and additional needs.
  • Assist in the supervision of child during daily routines transitions staff breaks outdoor activities field trips lunch and bathroom periods as well as other times as assigned.
  • To facilitate the childs interaction with materials adults and other children in the classroom.
  • Communicate effectively with staff students and/or parents regarding needs and concerns.
  • Assist child with basic dress and grooming self-care.
  • Assist teacher with preparation of snacks materials and lessons as assigned.
  • Assist teacher and staff with sanitization and cleaning of materials and surfaces.

Other Duties:

  • Attending to health care physical needs of child which may include feeding toileting diapering responding to medical emergencies and handling equipment.
Requirements

Education licenses certifications skills and experience:

  • Experience working with young children within preschool settings and familiarity with child development.
  • Minimum of associates degree in one of the following fields: Education Special Education Occupational therapy Physical therapy Communication Disorders Education of the Deaf or related field.
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR (provided by Clarke).
  • Experience in public or private education as an aide preferred.

Physical demands:

  • Lifting or assisting a 2550-pound child
  • Lifting or carrying objects weighing up to 20 pounds
  • Walking standing and squatting
  • Climbing and holding doors
  • Working with hands to hold grasp manipulate small objects
