Job Description

The University of Denver has a proud athletic tradition that compliments the schools academic endeavors. Position Summary

The Associate Athletic Director for Finance and Business Operations will assist in administering functions directly associated with the fiscal operations of the Division ensuring compliance with all NCAA Division and University policies/procedures. Specific duties include but are not limited to the following: Financial operations: budget development oversight NCAA Agreen Upon Procedures and financial analysis; Team travel: strategy oversight of Athony Travel representative travel contracting; NCAA Championships: bids reimbursements budget oversight; Game Contacts/Scheduling; Policy: assist with writing divisional policies and procedures; Assist with the creation of training materials/guides for divisional colleagues and coaching staff to help navigate financial systems; Audit: NCAA University ad hoc; Golf Course: assist golf course controller with regular financial analysis endowment-related financial activity and support overall course operations as needed; Direct oversight of Assistant Director of Business: performance reviews educate and mentor. The Associate Athletic Director for Finance and Business Operations will also demonstrate an on-going commitment to the principles of multiculturalism and diversity through hiring practices training and development programming campus collaborations or involvement and participation in university/divisional multiculturalism and diversity projects of initiatives.

Essential Functions

Financial Oversight

  • Direct oversight of budgetary components for Divisions sport portfolio and administrative units
  • Perform budget analyses and conduct budgetary forecasting in a dynamic financial environment with an ever-changing NCAA landscape
  • Oversee NCAA Audit/Agreed Upon Procedures process yearly
  • Develop solutions and options to unprecedented problems that require thorough analysis and research Approve or deny budgetary requests from coaches and administrators
  • Conduct financial management responsibilities in the division that is funded by a variety of dynamic and multi-dimensional funding sources
  • Create maintain and distribute monthly financial reports to all sports and quarterly to administration areas
  • Meet regularly with coaches administrators and leadership to ensure proper budget management compliance with department and university policy and alignment with strategic goals.
  • Assist University of Denver Golf Club Controller with regular financial analysis perform/review all golf endowment-related financial activity. Act as financial liaison for DUGC to athletic department and University leadership.
  • Assist VC and CFO with budget development and five year projections

Sport Operations

  • Manage all aspects of team travel financial operations including oversight of onsite Athony Travel representative and flight hotel and meal contracting. Approve/Deny travel requests.
  • Develop manage and submit all NCAA Championship bids and reimbursements for the department of athletics. Effectively work with various internal (leadership finance ticketing marketing events scheduling) and external stakeholders (vendors university partners sponsors sports commissions) throughout this process.
  • Review and manage sport game contracting. Work with University risk legal and procurement to ensure effective and efficient contracting; manage positive relationships with other competing institutions. Strategically advise leadership and coaches surrounding NCAA game scheduling.
  • Perform sport administration duties and provide leadership to designated sports.

Operational Efficiency

  • Assist in the development maintenance and improvement of policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the creation of training and education materials for various financial processes
  • Assist in the year-end close process including paying and closing all purchase orders/invoices

Supervision

  • Oversight of Assistant Director of Business Operations (1) and Part-time Business Office Assistant(s). Complete performance reviews educate mentor and provide guidance and support to ensure success of individuals and overall business office team.
  • Exhibiting the highest professional standards and ethical behavior about adherence to NCAA Conference University and the Division of Athletics rules and regulations
  • Proactively uphold the outstanding working relationships within the Division and the University
  • Assuming other duties as assigned by Deputy Athletic Director for Strategy/CFO and Vice Chancellor of Athletics & Ritchie Center Operations

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree
  • 5 years of business experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree
  • 10 years of business experience

Working Environment

  • Standard office environment.
  • Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
  • Noise level is quiet to moderate.

Physical Activities

  • Ability to work in front of a computer for an extended period.
  • Occasionally required to move about the office/campus

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Some weekends and evenings.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 13.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $85000-$105000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate departmental budget availability internal salary equity considerations and available market information but not based on a candidates sex or any other protected status.
