About the Opportunity
We are seeking a skilled and energetic Hospital Scientist/Senior Hospital Scientist who possess a passion for person centred care. We welcome applications from people who are biomedical science graduates with experience in cellular therapy for a temporary full-time position as a Senior Medical Laboratory Scientist in the Blood & Marrow Transplant Laboratory of NSW Health Pathology Liverpool Hospital.

Liverpool Hospitals Blood & Marrow Transplant (BMT) unit is a major transplant unit in NSW carrying out over 50 transplants and over 70 cryopreservation per year. BMT unit also participate in haematology clinical trials. The laboratory is NATA accredited and seeking FACT/JACIE International accreditation. Duties include joining the existing team to carry out the processing of haematopoietic progenitor cells and immune effector cells for clinical transplantation participation in clinical trials product testing quality assurance and other duties.

What youll be doing
Responsible for the management of scientific technical and support staff all testing and associated activities and logistics for the assigned laboratory. The position oversees the quality cost and operational integrity of the department regulatory compliance and accreditation of laboratory services in the department human resource business and resource management.

  1. Bachelor Degree or higher degree in Science/Medical Laboratory Science or an equivalent qualification with subjects relevant to pathology from a recognised tertiary institution.
  2. Customer focused approach displaying well-developed interpersonal skills and good oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with customers patients and clinical and laboratory staff along with report writing skills statistical evaluation of scientific data and the ability to effectively communicate policies and procedures
  3. Display initiative problem solving and analytical skills including an ability to apply established principles in a BMT laboratory and investigate and resolve general and complex issues within the laboratory environment.
  4. Demonstrated managerial skills with experience in laboratory operations administration and budgeting
  5. Advanced knowledge of Pathology Laboratory Information Systems including supervision of e-based Quality Management Systems
  6. Extensive high level knowledge of working within the relevant section of the laboratory with knowledge of the operation and maintenance of analytical equipment in a pathology laboratory
  7. Sound understanding of legislation policies and requirements that impact the laboratory environment including work health and safety and privacy requirements
  8. Experience in cryopreservation of human haematopoietic progenitor immune effector cell preparation infusion and participation in clinical trials. Sound understanding of regulatory requirements such as NATA and FACT regulations relating to the Blood & Marrow Transplant Program.
