Job Description

Are you passionate about sport and storytelling Dream of seeing your byline in print and online covering everything from grassroots netball to elite-level football Shepparton News part of the McPherson Media Group (MMG) is looking for an enthusiastic and driven Sports Cadet Journalist to join our award-winning newsroom.

About the Role:

This is a role designed to launch your journalism career. Based in the sports-mad city of Shepparton youll become part of a dynamic and supportive sports team that covers everything from football netball and basketball to tennis cricket bowls squash and more.

Youll have the opportunity to:

  • Cover local national and international events hosted in Shepparton and the wider Goulburn Valley.
  • Report on a diverse range of sports and uncover compelling stories from the community.
  • Produce high-quality content for both print and digital platforms.
  • Learn and contribute to multimedia content including podcasts photography and video storytelling.
  • Engage audiences through social media and emerging digital formats.

What Were Looking For:

  • A genuine passion for sport and a keen eye for a great story.
  • Strong writing and communication skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Team-oriented mindset and a willingness to collaborate in a fast-paced newsroom.
  • Motivation to learn grow and be mentored by some of the regions best sports journalists.
  • A degree (or nearing completion) in Journalism Media & Communications or a related field is preferred.
