Job Description

Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Senate Chair the Academic Support Specialist is responsible for the administrative coordination and duties related to the overall operation of the Academic Senate including oversight of department resources including budget oversight of office and Academic Senate resources and personnel administration of faculty and student positions. The incumbent provides administrative support to the Senate Chair in matters that involve the resolution of complex problems interpretation and application of policies and sensitive issues. This position provides continuity of operation with respect to the Academic Senate college and university policies and procedures. Effectiveness depends on the application of clear appropriate guidelines knowledge of precedent situations and provides consistency during transition periods.

Department Summary

The Academic Senate is the faculty governing body of the University representing approximately 1000 faculty members. It is the principal agency for the formulation and recommendation of policy for the University and provides the mechanism for consultative participation by the University community in the administrative decisions of its President. This legislative body is comprised of 51 elected faculty representatives 4 senior administrators and 2 students

Key Qualifications

  • Ability to effectively interpret organize and present information and ideas in written or presentation form as needed by the Academic Senate chair or vice chair.
  • Excellent organizational skills. Ability to independently anticipate and prioritize tasks and projects through the use of initiative organizational and time management skills creative problem-solving and sound decision making. Ability to use negotiation and persuasion skills to achieve results and expedite projects.
  • Ability to initiate establish and foster communication and teamwork by maintaining a positive cooperative productive work atmosphere in and outside the University with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a diverse population and with those from various cultural backgrounds.
  • Possess skill in collection and evaluation of data to develop valid conclusions and recommendations. Ability to compile information in concise manner for meetings and reports.
  • Ability to use tact and diplomacy to effectively handle a broad range of high level and sensitive interpersonal situations with diverse personalities and to respond appropriately to conflicts and problems.

Education and Experience

  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university. One year of technical or administrative experience. A graduate degree in a related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Salary and Benefits

Anticipated Hiring Range: $5000/Month- $6250/Month

Classification Range:
Minimum $3879/Month - Maximum: $ 7488.00/Month

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience skills knowledge abilities education licensure and certifications and other business and organizational needs. The Anticipated Hiring Range referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Classification Range may be broader than what the University anticipates paying for this position based on internal equity budget and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
