HealthPartners is hiring for an Ophthalmic Technician working in the Eye Care department
This position will float to multiple locations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED:
High School graduate or equivalent.
One year (full time equivalent of 2080 hours) or more of ophthalmic technician experience or completion of an accredited technical vocational school ophthalmic technician program
Ophthalmic technician certification by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCHAPO) or ready for certification for ophthalmic technician by JCHAPO.
If hired without the JCAHPO certification must register for and pass the JCAHPO ophthalmic technician certification test within 12 months of hire date. If not a recent graduate of an accredited technical vocational school must have completed an online course for certified ophthalmic technicians
Must be professional punctual dependable and possess good communication skills. Must be able to interact with patients and staff in a courteous and cooperative manner.
Proficiency with computers and keyboarding.
PREFERRED:
Formal ophthalmic technician training from an accredited technical/vocational school and a minimum of two-years full time ophthalmic technician experience in an ophthalmic care setting.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess manual dexterity good vision and be self-mobile.
POSITION PURPOSE:
Service excellence is to be centered on patient care and patient relationships and is the responsibility of all employees. Teamwork is the norm and all employees will be held accountable to work as effective team members. The Certified Ophthalmic Technician position will be working under the direction and supervision of the eye care provider and eye care supervisor. Accurate data gathering and accurate testing is expected. Clear and effective communication with team members and the provider is expected.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Record patients presenting complaint and associated symptoms obtain a complete medical
and ophthalmic history;reconcile meds document and update allergies.
2. Perform lens neutralization.
3. Accurately refract.
4. Plot visual fields using either the Goldman perimeter or automated perimeter.
5. Obtain intraocular pressure measurements with different methods: Goldman applanation
tonopen and I-care.
6. Assess pupillary functions.
7. Check for color vision defects.
8. Take Keratometry readings.
9. Perform basic strabismus evaluations/testing using prisms Maddox rods cover testing Hirschberg-Krimsky measurements and examination of ductions and versions.
A-scan and B-scan ultrasound readings. Be able to accurately obtain data for intraocular
lens calculations by all methods available.
