About Blake Cross Country: The Blake School is an independent co-educational PK-12 day school with campuses in Hopkins and Minneapolis MN. Our athletic program is an integral part of the student experience fostering sportsmanship teamwork and individual growth. The Blake Cross Country program has a rich history of success and a strong commitment to developing well-rounded student-athletes.

Job Description: The Assistant Cross Country Coach will work collaboratively with the Head Coach to provide a comprehensive and positive cross country experience for student-athletes. The Assistant Coach will play a key role in developing runners of all abilities promoting a positive team culture and ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Head Coach in planning organizing and conducting daily practices.

  • Work with individual runners and small groups to improve technique fitness and race strategy.

  • Supervise student-athletes during practices meets and team events.

  • Help foster a positive inclusive and supportive team environment.

  • Assist with meet day logistics including course walk-throughs warm-ups and cool-downs.

  • Communicate effectively with student-athletes parents and the Head Coach.

  • Promote good sportsmanship and adherence to MSHSL rules and Blake School policies.

  • Assist with team administrative tasks as needed (e.g. equipment management uniform distribution).

  • Attend all practices meets and team meetings as scheduled.

  • Prioritize the safety and well-being of all student-athletes.

Experience and Skills:

Qualifications:

  • Previous cross country coaching or competitive running experience at the high school or collegiate level preferred.

  • Knowledge of cross country training principles techniques and race strategy.

  • Ability to motivate and inspire young athletes.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a coaching team.

  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).

  • Familiarity with MSHSL rules and regulations is a plus.

  • A commitment to the educational mission of The Blake School.
