ACT Team Vocational Specialist - Mental Health Practitioner

Your Role on the ACT Team

  • Providing vocational and employment related support to individuals with mental illness.
  • Working with clients to develop job skills navigate job searches and provide initial support to maintain employment
  • Networking with local businesses and hiring managers to maintain directory of jobs and/or volunteer opportunities for clients

  • In-Person Client Appointments: Engage with clients face-to-face in welcoming community-focused locations fostering belonging.
  • Remote Work: Complete other tasks from the comfort of your home or within the community.

Hiring Range - Wage varies based on qualifications.

  • Mental Health Practitioner I: $22.00/hour-$23.76/hour
  • Mental Health Practitioner II: $24.20/hour-$26.14/hour


Main Job Duties:

  • Using person-centered principles actively engage clients in their mental health recovery and develop and maintain appropriate relationships that support the client in meeting their individual goals.
  • Facilitate and conduct individual services that address a variety of needs and health concerns for the client. May facilitate and conduct group interventions if applicable.
  • Provide collateral information for nursing assessments and conduct interviews and gather information to inform treatment planning plan-of-care reviews and discharge plans as needed or directed
  • Document interactions and interventions with clients according to program requirements into the organizations Electronic Health Record (EHR) and/or record-keeping system.
  • Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation for clients experiencing mental health symptoms or other emotional and/or behavioral responses while prioritizing client and program safety.
  • Participate in coordination of services through the recognition of the multiple needs of the client with other providers in the community in an effort to provide necessary resources to the client.
  • Provide various skill-building teaching and/or coaching as it relates to the individuals goal and/or treatment plan.
  • Attendance is an essential function of this position.
  • Performing all other duties as assigned.
Requirements

Required Education and Experience: Must meet both the Vocational Specialist and Mental Health Practitioner I (see below).


Vocational Specialist Requirements:

  • A minimum of one-year (2000 hours) experience in providing employment and educational support services (see examples below)
    • College support staff (admissions academic coaching)
    • County positions (housing employment occupational support)
    • Supportive Employment workers (State County non-profits)
    • Vocational Support Center (VSP) positions
    • Occupational support clinic positions
  • OR in lieu of 2000 hours of experience has education that involved field training in vocational services to individuals with mental illness

Mental Health Practitioner I Requirements:

  • High school diploma AND;
    • 4000 hours of experience in the delivery of services to people with mental Illness Traumatic brain injury or developmental disabilities OR;
    • 2000 hours of supervised experience in the delivery of services to people with Mental Illness and receives clinical supervision from a mental health professional once a week until 4000 hours of experience is met

OR

  • Has completed 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours in behavioral science or a related field AND;
    • Has proof of a practicum or internship that requires direct interaction with adults or children served and is focused on behavioral sciences or related fields OR;
    • Has 2000 hours of supervised experience in the delivery of services to people with Mental Illness.

OR

  • Bachelors degree in behavioral science or related field AND;
    • Has proof of a practicum or internship that requires direct interaction with adults or children served and is focused on behavioral sciences or related fields OR;
    • Has 2000 hours of supervised experience in the delivery of services to people with Mental Illness.

AND

  • Must be free of chemical use problems for at least two years immediately preceding their hiring and must sign a statement attesting to that fact if applicable.


Preferred Education and Experience

  • Prior experience working with people with serious and persistent mental illness and/or substance use disorders.
  • Candidates that qualify as a Mental Health Practitioner II preferred (see qualifications below):
    • Bachelors degree in behavioral science or related field; AND has proof of 4000 hours of experience in the delivery of services to people with mental illness;
    • OR Masters Degree in behavioral science or related field
    • OR in lieu of a bachelors degree in a behavioral science/related field has proof of 10000 hours of experience in the delivery of services to people with mental illness.
  • Experience in working with clients to develop job skills navigate job searches and provide initial support to maintain employment. Such as networking with local businesses and hiring managers to maintain directory of jobs and/or volunteer opportunities
  • Experience working with individuals with co-occurring medical and/or chemical dependency and SPMIs
  • Experience completing functional assessments treatment plans and LOCUS
  • Experience in providing culturally competent services to underserved populations
  • Lived experience as a member of a diverse community
