Job Description
Are you ready to play a key role in designing and developing advanced software systems for high-performance embedded environments ALTEN UK is seeking a Senior Java Software Engineer/Developer to support mission-critical applications spanning embedded systems and UI development.
You will be instrumental in defining software architecture implementing robust Java solutions and ensuring high-quality delivery from concept through deployment.
Location: Derby
Your main responsibilities will be:
- Lead and contribute to software architecture and design for complex embedded and enterprise applications.
- Develop advanced Java components and services with a focus on performance scalability and maintainability.
- Design and implement user interfaces using the MVC (Model-View-Controller) design pattern.
- Apply object-oriented development principles across the software lifecycle.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate software into broader system architectures.
- Work with relational databases performing data modelling and optimizing data structures.
- Use source control tools like Git or SVN to manage and maintain codebases efficiently.
- Uphold best practices in software engineering development processes testing and code quality.

Qualifications :
Experience skills and qualifications required:
- Advanced proficiency in Java with experience developing complex systems.
- Strong foundation in Relational Databases and Data Modelling.
- Practical application of Object-Oriented Development (OOD) principles.
- Experience in UI development using the MVC design pattern(s).
- Proficiency with source control systems such as Git or SVN.
- Experience with Eclipse IDE for Java development.
- UI/UX development experience preferably with Java UI technologies and MVC frameworks.
- Experience with Object Relational Mapping (ORM) especially Java persistence technologies.
- Software/system design expertise.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines preferably using Azure DevOps.
