Job Duties

Eastern State Hospital located in Williamsburg Virginia was founded in 1773 with a well-intentional emphasis on community focused mental health care. This state of the art campus situated on 500 acres consists of two patient care buildings with 300 patients and a highly skilled staff of over 900. Eastern State Hospital is part of the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) system and is accredited by the Joint Commission.

ESH invites applications for the position of the Communications Operator.

The Communications Operator provides a customer service oriented central reception function for the hospital that disseminates routine and emergency incident information 24 hours a day / 7 days a week. This position mobilizes emergency services and personnel in response to crises involving life or property.

Successful candidate should possess:
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office computer programs online and computer data entry.
- Customer service oriented.
- Ability to use a multi-line telephone system.
- Ability to be flexible an able to work rotating shifts as well as weekends holidays and occasional overtime.

Shift: Rotating (to include weekends and holidays)
NOTE: This position requires availability for all three shifts (1st 2nd & 3rd)

Minimum Qualifications

Experience in the utilization of the Microsoft Office Suite online and computer data entry.

Experience in dispatching using multi-line systems and various office equipment.

Experience using law enforcement and/or two-way radio equipment.

Experience monitoring fire alarm systems.

Experience providing customer service.

Able to work Rotating shifts to include weekends holidays and occasional overtime.

NOTE: This position requires availability for all three shifts (1st 2nd & 3rd)

Additional Considerations

Experience working in a medical setting.

Experience using a multi-line telephone system and various office equipment.

Experience using law enforcement / two-way radio equipment and dispatching calls.

Experience monitoring fire alarm systems.
