Job Description

The Role

The Scientist will be based at our laboratories at Whittlesford responsible for running and developing our high-throughput target screening platform. This is an advanced platform for identifying the targets of antibodies discovered in individuals resilient to disease. It involves a range of methods including display technologies and next generation sequencing. Working within the Research team the Scientist will report to the Associate Director Research. The successful candidate will also work together with other scientific teams at Alchemab as part of the drug discovery process. It is a unique opportunity to broaden your experience within antibody discovery and help to evolve our platform technologies as well as contribute to developing novel and transformational therapeutic antibodies.

Responsibilities

  • High-throughput screening of antibodies and patient samples to identify targets
  • Work with bioinformaticians and project teams to triage hits from screening
  • Develop the screening platform to enable identification of novel targets and increase throughput
  • Work collaboratively with the scientific teams as well as with external research groups and partners
  • Communicate efficiently interpret and summarise data for presentation to different audiences
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic laboratory notebook records
  • Maintain assigned laboratory equipment and duties
  • Perform all work demonstrating due care and attention to all health and safety and COSHH regulations and Human Tissue Act records where required

Experience & Requirements

Essential

  • Solid demonstrable experience with tissue culture and using cells (preferably mammalian and yeast) for screening
  • Strong background in molecular biology including cloning
  • Experience with cell line generation and characterisation e.g. flow cytometry
  • Ability to work independently developing running and troubleshooting new scientific techniques and experimental protocols
  • An ambition to work with the Alchemab team to build a transformative company
  • A team player who proactively and directly communicates and collaborates with other team members

Desirable

  • Experience with expressing functional complex membrane proteins e.g. GPCRs
  • Experience with high-throughput screening and automation in an industrial setting
  • Experience with antibody discovery
  • Experience with next-generation sequencing

Qualifications

  • A PhD in a relevant scientific discipline or equivalent research experience e.g. in industry
