Director of Instructional Services and Adult Education Coordinator

Job Type:

Hourly/Non-Exempt/Section 107

A grant funded position through June 30 2026

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two years of study at an institution of higher education or Associates (or higher) degree or meet rigorous standards through formal state or local academic assessment of ability to assist in instructing reading writing and mathematics
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students staff and the business community
  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse educational backgrounds
  • Computer ability (must be proficient in all aspects of Microsoft software and Google suites)
  • Critical thinking problem-solving and collaboration skills
  • Experience working with adult learners strongly preferred
  • Multilingual preferred
  • Knowledge of community resources in Van Buren preferred
  • Valid drivers license required

Job Objective

  • Increased enrollment and retention rates in adult education programs
  • Improved career readiness skills
  • Increased internship and job placement opportunities
  • Survey previous students to compile data about current and past employment status.
  • Assist students in developing an individualized timeline and plan for measurable language skills gained earning their GED or diploma.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with community partners and local agencies to connect students with resources and recruit new students
  • Provide solution-based constructive feedback to students to help them reach their goals
  • Support students as they transition to improved employment opportunities
  • Establish and maintain relationships with local employers to create job positions specifically for program participants
  • Assist in developing and promoting career and college preparation by facilitating group learning guest speakers and other activities/events



Job Functions

  • Personalized Coaching and Career Planning:
    • Success coaches will work individually with students to design personalized educational and career plans tailored to high growth/high demand sectors.
    • Coaches will assess skills interests and career goals to create actionable plans for success.
    • Maintain regular contact with students to keep them on track and motivated
  • Community Resource Development:
    • Coaches will act as Barrier Navigators connecting students to appropriate resources as needed.
    • Partner with Adult Education to discuss learner achievements language proficiency levels and share student learning plans
    • Coaches will survey previous learners to identify barriers and discuss options to remove the barrier
  • Employer Relationship Development:
    • Establish and maintain relationships with local employers to create job positions specifically for program participants.
    • Collaborate with employers to create educational incentives
    • Facilitate paid internship opportunities to provide practical experience aligned with career goals.
  • Student Community Referral System:
    • Coordinate a referral system to provide information on job skill workshops job search resources employment services job fairs and career-specific training programs.
    • Ensure students have access to comprehensive resources for career development and job placement.
  • Maintain records: of students progress and participation using scheduled appointments followup calls referrals adult learning plans and other items assigned by the AE Leader.

Days/Hours:

Monday - Friday 35 hours per week; School Calendar

Start Date:

August 14 2025 (This is a grant funded position)

ms of Employment: As per master agreement and provisions established by the Van Buren Board of Education.
