ABOUT YOU

As the Metallurgist Technician Apprentice you will be looking to take the next step in your career by developing your workplace competency through completion of a materials degree. You will have a high attention to detail willingness to learn and excellent time management skills to be successful in this role.

Required skills and experience:

  • Strong IT literacy skills.
  • To meet the course entry requirements: 112 UCAS points including at least 64 points from two A levels or equivalent BTEC national qualifications or T levels.
  • Achieved GCSE (or equivalent) mathematics and English language at grade C or grade 4 or above.
  • Not be in full time education OR have previously studied a materials related course at degree level or above.
  • Over the age of 18.
  • Have the right to live & work in the UK.

Desirable experience:

  • Interested in hands on practical work.
  • Good knowledge of science and mathematics with an interest in metallic materials.
  • Previous experience working with materials analysis techniques would be an advantage.
  • Experienced or know of modern lean tools and techniques.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The role of Metallurgy Apprentice Technician focusses on the evaluation of materials and its relevant properties. This is carried out in accordance with both international and customer specifications and provides exposure to a large variety of industries.

Key activities:

  • Supporting booking in of laboratory jobs
  • Processing samples in line with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) including cutting grinding polishing etching replication
  • Microscope analysis of materials with reference to specifications
  • Chemical analysis using an Optical Emission Spectroscopy (OES) and/or a XRF analyser etc
  • Report analysis findings in an accurate and concise manner.
  • Ensuring calibration standards are maintained
