Traffic Control & Engineering is seeking a dedicated and driven Transportation Specialist I to join our Maspeth operation. The selected candidate will undertake a range of professional transportation and trafficrelated projects studies and investigations. Responsibilities include coordinating sign removals replacements minor repairs and the development and maintenance of a tracking system within TCEs Sign Information Management System (SIMS) to efficiently monitor all highway signs. The candidate will also document existing conditions and issues propose improvements conduct field investigations and may supervise staff. This role demands active participation in data collection conducting surveys and evaluating traffic conditions. Additionally the candidate will review and approve work orders ensuring all operations comply with established guidelines and specifications and may suggest enhancements to improve efficiency. The candidate must have proficient computer skills as the job involves data entry and the use of cityspecific transportation software such as the Sign Information Management System (SIMS). Tasks also include preparing forms reports logs and correspondence. Ideal candidates will be meticulous accurate effective team players and must maintain a positive attitude coupled with outstanding communication skills. Responsibilities also include strict adherence to all agency safety protocols to maintain a safe work environment including the correct usage of safety equipment and attire at work sites. Traffic Control & Engineering is responsible for administration engineering and operations related to the installation manufacturing maintenance and removal of signs flexible bollards moveable barriers inhouse traffic sign production and other traffic control devices. The office draws on the expertise and talents of engineers sign designers planners inspectors IT experts analysts and others to help the agency achieve Vision Zero and other city goals.

Preferred Skills
will be given to candidate with a drivers license valid in the state of New York. This license must b maintained throughout duration of employment in this position.
knowledge of traffic engineering principles and standards.
ability to plan and develop projects implement strategies and articulate concise reports.
in the Department of Transportations Sign Information Management System (SIMS).

This position is eligible for remote work up to 2 days per week pursuant to the Remote Work Pilot Program agreed to between the City and DC37.

TRANSPORTATION SPECIALIST 22316

Qualifications :

1. A masters degree in transportation engineering mathematics urban planning architecture landscape architecture urban studies or related physical and social science fields; or

2. A baccalaureate degree in engineering from an accredited college and one year of fulltime satisfactory experience performing technical work on roadway transportation and traffic studies and areawide traffic programs; or

3. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of fulltime satisfactory experience as described in 2 above; or

4. An associate degree or completion of 60 semester credits from an accredited college and four years of fulltime satisfactory experience as described in 2 above; or

5. A fouryear high school diploma or its educational equivalent and six years of fulltime satisfactory experience as described in 2 above.

SPECIAL NOTE:

In addition to meeting the minimum Qualification Requirements above:

To be assigned to Assignment Level II the candidate must have an additional year of experience as described in the Qualification Requirements listed under 2 above.

To be assigned to Assignment Level III the candidate must have an additional two years of experience as described in the Qualification Requirements listed under 2 above.
