Job Description

Materials Process & Physics Engineer Fiber Optics

Boeing Defense & Space (BDS) is seeking an experienced or senior Materials Process and Physics (MP&P) Engineer to join our team in the greater St. Louis area in Berkeley Missouri. This person will be responsible for electrical and fiber optic component test and development.

They will support enterprise programs in the fabrication and testing of fiber optic related interconnect systems. Position requires patience with hands on delicate task work on fiber optic components as well as general lab activities. The applicant will be required to learn and perform at a high demand level in a critical environment. Additional requirements include familiarity with standard electrical/electronic and fiber optic lab equipment (scopes meters microscopes OTDRs etc.) as well as the ability to compile and prepare technical reports and documentation. The applicant should possess a selfmotivated attitude with attention to details and pride of workmanship.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Define requirements for tools equipment materials parts and processes used in fiber optic engineering

  • Lead the production of specifications and documents for the deployment of tools equipment materials parts and processes

  • Ensure compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations

  • Promote standardization across business activities

  • Evaluate emerging technologies for potential application to fiber optic needs

  • Lead the development and qualification of new tools equipment materials parts and processes

  • Integrate new technologies as appropriate

  • Conduct complex analysis to determine performance or reasons for failures of tools materials parts or processes

  • Implement corrective and preventive actions

  • Lead the design development and qualification of computer and production systems

  • Incorporate environmental health and safety LEAN and Quality principles into materials and processes research design and qualification work procedures and lab and office areas

  • Strong knowledge of fiber optic assembly integration and testing

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret clearance PostStart is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology) chemistry physics mathematics data science or computer science. Bachelors degree and 5 years experience or Masters and 3 years (Level 3) or Bachelors degree and 9 years experience or Masters and 7 years (Level 4) or Bachelors degree and 14 years experience or Masters and 12 years (Level 5)

  • 1 years of experience with fiber optic systems sensors systems and components (Strong knowledge of fiber optic assembly integration and testing)

  • 1 years of experience in excellent problemsolving and analytical skills

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Masters or higher degree in aerospace material science metallurgical engineering or mechanical engineering

  • Familiarity with highreliability harsh environment applications

  • 3 years of experience with fiber optic systems sensors systems and components

  • Experience with electrical power systems

  • Active Security Clearance

Summary pay range (Level 4): $116450 $157550
