Our Applied Data Science Center (ADSC) harnesses our global healthcare insights working closely with our clinical and therapeutic experts to power evidencedriven design speed site activation and recruit the right patients faster. Associate Director Software Engineering The Role

This management position within the Applied Data Science Center (ADSC) department of the Research & Development Solutions organization (R&DS) is responsible for managing a team of software engineers. As an Associate Director you will lead a high performing group of developers who design and develop new products features feature enhancements and bug fixes that serve an array of scenarios related to clinical trials and other lines of IQVIAs pharma/tech business.

Your typical activities will include:

  • Mentoring junior and senior software engineers.
  • Helping team members achieve career goals.
  • Oversee one or more product teams.
  • Maintaining uptodate knowledge of programming languages software development techniques and methodologies.
  • Leading improvements in software development best practices including Agile processes programming techniques and processes.
  • Keeping team members informed of company processes priorities and general information.
  • Managing employees conducting performance reviews including development plans making staffing decisions.
  • Creating effective onboarding plans to ensure minimum time to value.
  • Ensuring team members are aligned with their role and contribution.
  • Identifying unmet skill requirements and hiring or developing staff to satisfy them.
  • Promoting a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence.
  • Collaborating with other departments to ensure alignment with company goals and objectives.
  • Driving strategic initiatives to improve development processes and team performance.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Sees a frontline managers role as a playercoach.
  • Demonstrate ownership and commitment.
  • Passion for empowering and enabling direct reports.
  • Articulates healthy leadership principles including relationships empathy collaboration pragmatism.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Ability to be tactful when dealing with delicate situations.
  • Prior experience working in a collaborative Agile environment.
  • Basic understanding of finances and budgeting.
  • Prior experience in a senior individual contributor role (senior engineer staff engineer principal engineer senior principal engineer).
  • Previously as an IC led projects with teams of peers (influence not HR authority).
  • Used/consumed APIs made by others.
  • Used CI/CD commit test deploy tools.
  • Developed objectoriented software using at least one of Python 3.x or JavaScript (ES5/6 or ES2015) in addition to other technologies or frameworks.
  • Solid understanding of relational database management systems including logical design and implementation considerations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 years prior experience as a team manager (HR authority).
  • Deployed software into Kubernetes containers.
  • Experience with public clouds.
  • Implemented and supervised version control strategies.
  • Designed and developed Microservices and APIs.
  • Developed software for container environments.
  • Awareness of infosec compliance factors in software development.
  • Prior experience collaborating with data science or machine learning teams.
  • Prior completion of an ABET accredited BS Computer Science degree or equivalent.
