Job Description

Your day to day:

You will be responsible for planning organizing and administering the extracurricular athletic program at DeKalb High School. This will include:

  • Game Management:
      • Establish game schedules and initiate athletic contracts for all sports hire officials for athletic contests and arrange transportation for athletic contests.

  • Coaching Leadership:
      • Provide leadership in the selection and evaluation of athletic coaches.
      • Cover coaches handbook with each coach.
      • Lead coaches meetings during the school year.
      • Provide direction and support to coaches.
      • Evaluate coaches at the end of each season.

  • Financial Oversight:
      • Monitor the Athletic Budget.
      • Prepare an accurate ticket report (gate receipts) for each home athletic contest.
      • Organize the selling of tickets including Big Red Little Red and Season Tickets.
      • Pay game workers.
      • Work with coaches and principals in purchasing and caring for equipment and uniforms.
      • Create a budget for uniform equipment and general athletic supplies based upon ticket sales fundraisers grants and other funding sources available.

  • Facility Management:
      • Collaborate with maintenance custodial and coaching staff to ensure playing and practice facilities are ready for use and ensure facilities are wellmaintained including fields lights scoreboards sound systems and bleachers.
      • Secure game workers as needed for home contests.
      • Create and manage practice schedules for gym/field usage. Ensure all teams and activities have accessibility to gym/field space.

  • Compliance and Record Keeping:
      • Ensure the athletic program abides by IHSAA Rules and Regulations.
      • Monitor physical and academic requirements for participation.
      • Keep records of student athletic participation and awards and arrange and organize an athletic awards program.
      • Ensure teams are tracking and updating records for teams and individual athletes on a yearly basis.
      • Tracking completion of all required training for coaches on an annual basis set forth by IHSAA and/or State of Indiana.

  • Code of Conduct and Communication:
      • Educate athletes on the expectations of the DeKalb High School ExtraCurricular Code.
      • Address violations in a fair and consistent manner and administer penalties as needed communicating with athletes parents school administrators and coaches.
      • Coordinate practice and game gym schedules and use of outdoor athletic facilities.

  • Event Management and Public Relations:
      • Attend athletic contests and evaluate program quality.
      • Evaluate the performance of coaches hired officials and game workers.
      • Promote positive sportsmanship from coaches athletes students and parents.
      • Provide media with schedules and stats prepare rosters and distribute to media and competing schools.
      • Host conference events IHSAA tournaments and attend relevant meetings.
      • Report scores to television and newspapers after events.
      • Handle parent concerns and make yourself available to athletes.
      • Create and manage a hall of fame for Baron Athletics.

  • Athlete Development and Support:
      • Host Athletic Council Meetings with students and help create leaders on/off the playing surface.
      • Ensure process is in place for all coaches to receive PD and actively engage in individual coaches associations for specific sports.
      • Nominate student athletes for any type of recognition to local state or national level.
      • Listen to athletes concerns and needs.
      • Communicate expectations to athletes and keep lines of communication open.
      • Encourage coaches to work together for the benefit of athletes.
      • Promote multisport athlete participation.
      • Monitor summer schedules to allow athletes involvement in more than one sport.
      • Oversee strength and performance personnel and programs to ensure safe and effective physical development of all athletes for inseason outofseason and summer.
      • Ensure coaches allow flexibility and collaborate with multisport athletes.
      • Organize a yearly fundraiser that will raise funds for the athletic department; i.e. golf outing etc. actively seeking additional opportunities for financial support for the athletic department.

  • Additional Responsibilities:
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal or superintendent.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • You have a masters degree in Educational Leadership or Athletic Administration.
  • You have previous experience in athletic administration or coaching.
  • You have a teaching license.
