Assists in supporting youth grades K5 in partnership with our OutofSchool Time (OST) Programs a program of East Side Neighborhood Services. This role is vital in promoting academic success through the facilitation of enrichment activities in coordination with Minneapolis Public Schools. Responsible for engaging youth through creative instructional methods building meaningful relationships and promoting various academic social and emotional program outcomes.
This yearround parttime nonexempt position is 25 hours per week Monday Friday. Hours are based on program needs and vary from summer to school year. In the summer work hoursare typically Monday through Friday from 9:30 AM to 3:30PM with the ability to flex hours on Friday as needed. (OST Program hours are typically Monday through Thursday from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.)
During the school year work hours for this positionare typically Monday through Friday between the hours of 1:00 PM and 6:00 PM with the possibility to flex some hours as needed. (OSTProgram hours are typically Monday Thursday from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM.) This position offers a hybrid opportunity to work from home one day a week (Friday).
Responsibilities
Teaching Functions
Provide instruction in literacy and/or STEM to individuals and small groups.
Utilize grade level standards to guide daily objectives and outcomes.
Ensure a safe learning environment for youth while adapting lessons to accommodate the needs of those participants.
Maintain ongoing contact with Program Manager regarding youth progress and challenges.
Assist in completing any required progress monitoring or assessments.
Administrative Functions.
Assist the Program Manager in the development implementation and evaluation of youth progress in designated areas.
Responsible for drafting and regularly submitting daily or weekly Activity Guides to the Program Manager.
Work closely with the Program Manager to generate a robust and wellrounded program calendar for youth participants and their families.
Monitor and oversee program forms and deadlines as they pertain to the session calendar outline.
Attend staff department meetings training and any outlined improvement initiatives.
Additional Functions
Help organize and facilitate community engagement nights and showcase events.
Supervise youth while in the community and during collaborative community partnership events.
Participate in consistent engagement with program participant families and the local community.
Education and Experience
Two or more years of college or postsecondary education in teaching social work or school counseling is required.
Minnesota School Licensure in teaching social work or school counseling is a plus.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Bilingual in either Spanish Oromo and/or Somali preferred.
Experience working with diverse urban youth and community populations.
Possesses knowledge of the state of Minnesota and Minneapolis Public Schools educational standards.
Experience in teaching youth in areas of literacy STEM and/or social emotional learning.
Experience facilitating to and managing youth groups of 1020 participants.
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid MN Drivers License and proof of auto insurance. Dependable transportation is required.
Minnesota School Licensure a plus (bonus pay for licensure).
CPR and First Aid Certification preferred.
ESL Teaching Certificate preferred.

The current opening operates as part of our OutofSchool Time (OST) Program located at our Mulberry Junction campus which runs out of the ESNS main office in northeast Minneapolis.
Must have ability to sit or stand for long periods of time and utilize various office equipment (e.g. computer printer phone and calculator) on a continual basis.
