Salary: $40.00/hr for RNs; $30.00/hr for LPNS
Organizational Relationship
or Line of Authority:
Works under the supervision of the Summer Health Services Coordinator Director of Health and Nursing Services and/or his/ her designee.
Statement of Duties:
- Promote and maintain optimal physical and emotional health of students.
- Provide emergency care and first aid in cases of injury and sudden illness.
- Maintain health records and document pertinent information.
- Review medical records for students attending the summer program.
- Notify parents of illnesses and accidents which occur during school hours and fill out appropriate accident forms.
- Distribute medications as necessary.
- Assess and evaluate the students health as necessary.
- Assess pertinent family history and home situation factors.
- Inform teachers and staff regarding medical issues that may affect them.
- Counsel students parents and school personnel and plan action for eliminating minimizing or accepting health problems.
Additional Responsibilities for Special Needs Classroom Nurses:
- To assist with hydration and nutrition via gtube or jtube by either mechanical pump or gravity feed.
- Monitor seizure activity and provide medications if indicated as per doctors order.
- To develop and update health care plans meet with school team members and families to provide appropriate level of health care within the school setting.
- Accompany students with medical needs when out of the school on field trips or community trips therapeutic swimming pool or horseback riding as per the IEP and Individual Health Care Plan (IHCP).
- May be required to ride the school bus with student(s).
Additional Responsibilities for 1:1 Nurses:
- Will be directly responsible for student as written in the student IEP and/or IHCP.
- Responsible for other duties as indicated by directives of the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designees; and policies of the Haverhill School Committee.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of two (2) years full time or equivalent part time paid experience as a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse in a recognized public school or public health agency preferred.
- Registration as a nurse under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in nursing is
- Licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education preferred.
- Knowledge of presentday public health nursing practice including its underlying principles and techniques.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.
