Position Description
Provide specialized instruction and case management for student(s) enrolled at North Haven High School who receive special education services. Additionally collaborate with students general education teacher(s) and collaborate with students service providers to support students Individualized Education Plan (IEP); modify curriculum.


Education Qualifications and Expectations

• Degree in Special Education and State of Connecticut Special Education certification (165);
• Working knowledge of the coteaching and consultative models;
• Collaboration with classroom teachers in a coteaching and/or consultative role including lesson development delivery of differentiated instruction and analysis of student performance data;
• Ability to provide direct academic instruction in a resource room model through specialized instruction;
• Experience conducting Functional Behavioral Analysis and writing behavioral support plans analyzing behavioral data;
• Ability to initiate productive communication to address student concerns with administration team members and parents;
• Develop a daily/weekly schedule of instructional and noninstructional activities for each paraprofessional that supports students on your caseload always with the intent to build students independence;
• Comprehensive knowledge of the Planning and Placement Team process and legal and related compliance;
• Become Handle with Care Trained (training provided by District in fall);
• Conduct appropriate evaluations and assist other teams in understanding the special education eligibility process for students with or suspected of having a disability including the use of state guidelines;
• Demonstrate teacherleadership qualities to bring initiative and innovation to the special education department in the above areas.

While performing the duties of this position the employee is regularly required to stand walk sit talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop kneel crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to ten (10) pounds.
