Job Description
Hamilton College and its Library and Information Technology Services (LITS) division are trailblazers in supporting teaching learning and faculty/student scholarship. In addition to the support provided for traditional library and IT services LITS staff are actively engaged in efforts to support digital scholarship in innovative ways including the campus wide Digital Hamilton strategic initiative. We are a member of national and regional consortia including the Oberlin Group the Consortium of Liberal Arts Colleges and the Council on Library and Information Resources. The Digital Scholarship and Innovation Librarian/Technologist works collaboratively across disciplines with faculty and students to support all aspects of scholarly production. This includes capturing analyzing and visualizing data; communicating findings with rich media and contextualizing both data and scholarly interpretations online. They provide expertise and training on commonly used digital scholarship platforms and tools and seek to develop best practices for support of digital scholarship projects in the liberal arts. The Digital Scholarship and Innovation Librarian/Technologist will also be aware of current scholarship trends.
This position also supports the rapid prototyping of creative new ideas to support initiatives both within Library and Information Technology Services (LITS) and the broader campus. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fail fast and forward environment demonstrate a strong curiosity for developing emerging technologies to support scholarly practices and excel at helping individuals with diverse expertise levels effectively use widely adopted digital scholarship tools all while employing sound project management strategies.
This is an exempt position with a pay range of $70000 $80000.
Responsibilities
- Support digital scholarship projects:
- Provide expertise consultations and technical support in partnering with faculty and students on digital scholarship projects
- Track project process keeping project management system up to date and serving as project manager as needed. Contribute to documentation on local implementation
- Manage and mentor student Digital Scholarship Interns
- Research evaluate and test tools for digital scholarship working collaboratively to provide feedback and recommendations on best tools and methods of deployment
- Support and lead innovative projects through rapid prototyping embracing a fail forward and fast mentality
- Lead crossteam projects within LITS
- Outreach to faculty and colleagues ranging from providing workshops to engaging in informal conversation
- Contributes to the LITS and Hamilton College communities and maintains current knowledge of tools and best practices necessary to perform above responsibilities
- Master of Library Science or equivalent degree from an ALA accredited institution an advanced degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience
- A passion for digital scholarship and innovation and particularly a passion for inspiring others to see new possibilities
- Experience in a library or technology position that includes support of services and technologies that are frequently used in digital scholarship desired
- Ability to embrace and enthusiasm for a fail fast and fail forward mentality
